Just got into the HT game a little too late....

Had a BOSE SoundTouch 130 which I consider descent for a simple just connect an expensive speaker and you’re set...... Never liked the bass module lack of deep true bass power, plus other limitations. Also newer sound bars don’t have HDMI inputs, I guess just 2 HDMI and also just can’t add anything more plus no EQ/Crossover playing with that systems. For one minute looked at the Lifestyle 650 but knew I could get more of the same, so I tried to configure a system equal or lower to the Lifestyle price.....

So I decided to upgrade after several years:

AVR: Onkyo TX-RZ740
Front: PSB X2T
Rear: PSB XB
Center: PSB XC
Front High: PSB P5
Sub: 2 Polk Audio HTS12

I did my own speaker cables with Banana Plugs and ready to go....

Couldn’t believe what I’ve been missing!!!!!

Anyone have PSB Speakers they’re so so good
Couldn’t be happier!!!

Any readers of Stereophile magazine here? I was shocked to read in this month’s issue that Art Dudley died in April a month after being diagnosed with metastatic liver cancer. IMHO Dudley was a great audio writer. He loved vintage gear and often eschewed the megabuck components so often reviewed in audio mags. I’ll miss his columns and reviews.

“Music is easy to miss for the listener who thinks his job is to concentrate on the sound."

Oh no! (Art) - I pick up a copy every now and then, but I no longer subscribe. I enjoyed his articles very much, and appreciated his love for the vintage stuff.

Art Dudley and Michael Fremer are the two Stereophile writers I can actually relate to. Most of the others wax poetically about how much better the $325,000 speakers are than the $250,000 speakers, or about how “the veil was lifted” when they connected the $35,000 speaker cables. Dudley and Fremer wrote/write about real, practical things you can do to increase your enjoyment of music.

Congratulations on your upgrade! My HT gear was one of the best investments we've made. If you buy once, cry once, a good speaker setup will last for years.

Okay, I have a headphone cable question. I know this is a can of worms to open up. I'll come out and say it, most of the cable industry is snake oil and I could care less what metal is used as a conductor, nor whether it contains fragments of the One Ring recovered from Mount Doom after the fall of Sauron. But I do appreciate a supple cable that doesn't get tangled up or make a bunch of noise from the cable sheathing material.

I'm looking to have a custom set of cables made for one of my headphones as the connectors I want aren't available from the manufacturer (need 2x 2.5mm jacks on the headphone side, and a 2.5mm TRRS on the amplifier side to use with a balanced portable amp). Does anybody have a go-to custom cable maker? I'm looking in the $50-$100 range.

Not really a collector but I still have and listen to vinyl on my 1968 manual Sansui turntable powered by a Pioneer receiver. Back in the day I always wanted but couldn't afford even a used McIntosh.

+1 for BJC's... I have used them MANY times for high quality and reasonably priced regular interconnects.

If I am looking for Custom cables, I go here. James is a one man band, he is quick and does what he promises. Prices are VERY reasonable for custom and high end connectors.

James Schmitt

he will sometimes give you a little discount also if you ask... just write him and tell him what you want.

The last thing I bought was a Belden Furutech interconnect... outstanding quality.

Thanks for the recommendations guys. Those seem like great options for interconnects. I couldn't find any choices for headphone specific cables. I dipped my to into the Head-Fi pool and while there is a lot of magical thinking to wade through on that forum, I've come across some custom cable makers that seem to make a really nice product. Will post down the road if I pick one up.

i'm running a Sansui model 2000 solid state amp with a sansui graphics equalizer, bose shelf speakers w/ vintage sharp subwoofers/tweeters and a Technics turntable. sounds great, but definitely a PITA compared to modern equipment at times, irritating as hell getting static from speaker wires. took me forever to get them trimmed just right lol
