I do love to watch them bounce!

Next on the list is a Schiit DAC, specifically the Gungnir Multibit.

I swapped out my PS Audio HCA-2 Class-D amplifier and replaced it with my 200 watt per channel McIntosh MC 2200 amp. It's old, but the sound is amazing, and these are selling for up to $2,000 online currently. I tried the McIntosh C-26 preamp in the system, but my Nakamichi CA-7A preamp blows it away. The phono stage on the Nakamichi was designed in 1985 by Nelson Pass, and it's one of the best you can get for the money. The turntable is a Rega P25 with an RB-300 arm and heavily modded Denon DL-103R cartridge. The CD player is a Rega Apollo. Spendor S9e speakers. I'm not wild about the sound in the new house with hardwood floors and smooth ceilings. I need some acoustic treatments in the room to reduce the reflections.

Do you have a copy of “get better sound”? If you are listening with your speakers set the way they are shown, I think you are leaving a lot on the table. You have good gear now you need to optimize the set up and THEN do room treatments. Just some food for thought.

The speaker placement is a compromise with Mrs. Chitwood, who thinks Pandora through a Bluetooth speaker is "good enough" as far as sound goes in the new house.

You guys are killing me.

My gear is in storage while we are remodeling our house and I have been listening to my music through Bose QC 35s for the last six months.

I will have to post photos later, but I have a set of Ascend Acoustics Sierra RAAL ribbon tower speakers mated to a 2-channel Marantz integrated amp.

I am upgrading my HTR to an Anthem MRX 720 in the hopes I can cut down my rack load to one amp component.

Now the MacIntosh porn has me rethinking caving in to the WAF in our main living room.

Back in the 80’s I came into a little money and went out and purchased my first real “system”. Did tons of research and ended up with a Harmon Kardon turntable, Nakamichi tape deck, NAD pre-amp, Amber Power Amp (constant power source), and KEF speakers. I have to say I listened to alot of speakers and the KEFs blew all the others away. I also learned the number one rule in purchasing stereo equipment: never, never listen to equipment out of your price range!!!! It sounds much better!!!!

I feel your pain! My system was in storage for 14 months while we live in an apartment and built our house. You'll have new appreciation for yours when you can finally set it up and sit back for a listening session.

I can also relate! Mines in storage now as well.

Maybe another year and “it’ll be safe” to set up again.

I recall McIntosh farming out much of their internals being produced in China. Not final assembly so they can still claim made in the USA but many pieces are made in China.

Was this during Clarion ownership? Don't think that's true today (but can ask them). The make the chassis, wind those huge and heavy transformers, print the glass, etc here is USA. A lot of their workforce has been with them for many years, and now under WOM ownership it seems they truly are focusing on that classic extremely high quality all around. WOM also seem to be trying to bring back their clinics too! Today's Mc is a company well worth watching imho.

Shameless plug alert... (ok, some shame... shame... shame... shame... shame...)

Some excellent gear on these posts.

I still have my Tannoy Arden 385’s speakers from the late 70’s and my old Technics amp, parabolic equaliser and SL 1700.
