Production numbers differ year to year?

Just curious if this is a normal Panerai thing.

I have a Panerai PAM796 with a U serial number that is numbered out of 1000 pieces. I believe the "U" serial numbers are from 2018.

I have since seen a V serial number PAM796 that is numbered out of 800 pieces. Is this normal?

Does Panerai change the number of watches they produce year to year for the same model of watch?

Just curious if anybo9dy knows. Thank you!
