Is getting a small nick or scratch on the crystal pretty common?

If it gets whacked hard enough, you are going to do some damage. If you can live with the way it looks, then you are good to go. If you had really hit it hard, you could have shattered/cracked the lens, but that didn't happen. Good luck.

I have two small nicks in my sub sapphire crystal due to the hard knocks it has taken over the years but they no longer bother me.

Its the first time ive ever noticed a scratch on any of my rolex watches in 8 years of being an owner. Its very small but just thought it was odd considering i dont remember hitting it on anything that hard. Ive only owned it for a month

i would try to ignore it for now. If you ever plan on flipping it, maybe get it replaced before doing so. Its fairly inexpensive to do.

The problem with replacing the crystal on the DSSD is that it has to go to Rolex to be pressure tested back to its depth rating. Your local watchmaker won't have the machine to do it.
