Hello Everyone,

I am wondering if anyone can answer to me why Rolex GMT -Master II was originally equipped with the 3175 rather than 3185 movement?

My understanding is that Rolex GMT Master II (16718) is an updated version of GMT Master.

With GMT - Master II (16718), it was advertised that it had the quickset hour hand rather than the quickset date. However, the 3175 movement was widely used with GMT Master 16700, which does not offer the quickset hour hand. Instead, it has the quickset date.

I am so confused about it. I’ve been trying to search on Google to see if someone can explain or show videos showing the quickset hour hand with the 3175 movement. So far, that information is so limited on the internet.

Your explanation is much appreciated.

I've never seen a 116718 with anything other than a 3186 movement, regardless of production year. My green dial 116718 has a 3186.

Hi Ray,

Your GMT with the green dial is the newer version of the GMT - Master II 18 YG (16718). I know that most of GMT - Master II (16718), who production year is from 1989 - 2007, is equipped with the 3185 movement. However, I have seen some GMT - Master II (16718) run with the 3175 movement, which was widely used for GMT - Master (16700).

I am planning to collect a GMT - Master II (16718) sometime this year or next year, but since this typical model is also equipped with the 3175 movement for the quickset date rather than the quickset hour hand. On the other hand, with the 3175 movement, GMT - Master II can use the GMT functionality, but it can only be used with rotating the bezel to get the second remote time.

I am sorry if I have confused you more about this question.

All 16718 had the 3185 from 1988 on as far as I know, from 1979 up to 1988 it had the 3075,the 3175 was only used in the 16700 only, the cal 3085 was used in the 16550 16760 explorer and GMT around 1985 for a short time.
