Is My Rolex Real??

Hello, Im new here. I came in to get some help from you guys. I just purchased a Rolex Submariner from a friend who claimed to bought it $10,000 years ago. Box and papers where lost as a result they relocated from where they used to stay. I did all my research to confirm its authenticity but not yet satisfied. A help from anyone would be really appreciated. I attach some photos:-

Do you have any more high resolution photos? From what I see it looks good, but I can compare to mine if you post higher res photos

Bring it to a Rolex AD, there are lots of fakes out there.

It looks real to me. I would wait for more members to chime in though as they might have better eyes than me on this.

You can also take it to a rolex dealer for authentication

Looks fake to me.In the first two pics,it appears that gold plating is wearing off the edges of the centrelinks of the bracelet.The links also do not sit flush at the points of articulation like they do on a genuine example.This can happen with wear,but this model cannot be old enough to warrant wear of that degree.

That is a possibility due to the pics Nick.I can't be certain,higher resolution pics may help,as would shots of the bracelet side on.Gold plating on fakes rarely covers the edges of the centre links.To me though,the general fit of the bracelet doesn't ring true for a piece that can only be a few years old unless it has had a very hard life

I guess you judging it base on the quality of the Pic. But the weight, detail, font size and alignment compared to some genuine pics is thesame. Yes true, not very sure if it is a real gold. Thats where the confusion is.

I think it looks good. A flat blue "Smurf" dial is time appropriate.

I concur,based on the latest pics I would be inclined to agree with others and say authentic.This is always going to be a tough call based on pics.The only definative answer is to take it to an AD.

If you want to set your mind at ease. Go into RSC, ask them for a general service estimate (cleaning, lube, etc). If they come out with a service estimate with your name, the watch serial number and a price quote, you're good to go. They won't work on your watch if it's unauthentic.

If you want to take it a step even further. Bring it to RSC and pay for a $150 insurance appraisal. Then you'll have paperwork to go with the watch.

One of the ways i check authenticity is googling the serial number. Fakes are made with molds so for the most part, the serial number for one fake is on several thousand other fakes, and has been posted on some type of forum or ad.

i don't have a no lug case in front of me so i'm at a loss there but the end links look odd to me on the bracelet and the lack of stampings on those links seems odd as well unless that is what a solid end link looks like (never looked at one up close)also what is going on inside the flip portion of the clasp ?? is that part of a glide lock deal (never studied one) would a glide lock be on a V serial watch ??? like many others have said better pics would go a long way but i think you have a reason to be concerned ! also how many permanent and removable links are on the bracelet seems odd !

just did 5 minutes of research i should have done before i posted . V serial ( apprx. 2008 ) was either first year or very early glidelock so the clasp looks right , SEL is what was throwing me off on the end links (also accurate for year ) , looked at a couple pics and see that is what they look like ! ceramic bezel etc etc. looks good !!

Just to put a little story in I've seen twice in my short days real rolex cases and Japanese movements. So yes take it to a AD to look at the movement.

I'm new to this, what exactly will the AD look at to determine authenticity? I understand the best fakes are duplicating every piece. Is that correct?

take it to any reputable jewellers and ask them to have a look.

Looks good to me but I'm with John, take it to a RSC an ask for a service quote.
