NEW MODELS - The thinnest Panerais ever - Due Collection

Beautiful new 42mm and 45mm models in steel (676 - 42mm / 674 - 45mm) and gold (677 - 42mm / 675 - 45mm).

The 42mm models are 10.5mm thick, while the 45mm models are 10.7mm thick. The steel models have a black sunburst dial and the gold models have a anthracite grey sunburst dial. Gold models also have a skeletonized movement.

The only setback, imo, is 30m wr for either size.

I really like the hand wound ones too.
I have yet to spring for a Panerai but that hand wound thin steel one would be a good place to start.
What do the actual Panerai fanboys think of these?

I think it's a step in the right direction. A lot of people love the crown guard but don't like the size of the watch. They don't want to get a Radiomir as their first piece because of the crown guard love.

So this one finally meets the demand of new buyers that probably want something a bit more dressy, can fit under the cuff, and has the crown guard.

Panerai has to adapt and bring some new things to market to get that new audience because enthusiasts can not support the brand financially forever.

I think they look gorgeous. Like I said in the op, the only think bothering me is that a watch with rich diver heritage has only 30m wr.

I think I'm the only person who doesn't care about the 30m water resistance. It doesn't look like a sport watch or a watch that I would want to go swimming with anyway. Thats what my Sub is for.

I'm more curious to see what the proportions will be like in person. Also interested in seeing the new 1950 case with the 2.3mm drop in height

I can see where you're coming from regarding the looks of the watch being more dressy. I guess what I feel is not so much related to wanting to take it in the water (it's on leather, after all), as it's a matter of being able to. 100m wr would have taken care of that, no need for crazy resistances.

On that leather strap I would treat it as my other watches on leather straps ; meaning the closest to water it gets is when washing ones hands. That is not a deal breaker for me. Boy do you have to pay the gold premium to get that gorgeous movement decoration upgrade though. I think it is a smart move however business wise, more incentive to buy the gold.

True, it seems fair to give the gold buyers more than just a different metal. Actually, because of the 30m wr, this watch almost makes more sense in gold and 42mm.

First the 634, now these SS abominations? Panerai really has a mixed bag of new stuff, and these are horrible. 30m rated? Absolute joke!

661 is cool.

RG models are nice.

Doesn't Panerai have a diver heritage ? 30m WR is laughable whether your going to take your $20k Panerai swimming with the Sharks or not.

It's just as ridiculous as 150m WR Aqua terra Seamaster, when you have orients with 200m WR...

Yea the 30m resistance kills it for me. I've been hesitant buying because of how large they are and the 45mm would put it right in my comfort zone. I've always loved the history and looks but just haven't been able to get over how tall they wear. I'd def put any Pam on a water resistant strap just because of the heratige.

If wanted a gold sports watch it would definitely have to be water resistant around the pool as we have one that the kids stay in all summer so it wouldn't get any wear until winter which isn't going to happen.

I am really hard pressed to wonder why 30M would be a killer for most people. 30M would be more than sufficient for probably 90% of people that would be buying this watch.

Yes they have a diving heritage, but they have to evolve and this is the first step. Building a Luminor that can be used more as a dress watch and features the crown guard instead of a Radiomir or Radiomir 1940's.

Why can't they have their historic model lineup and other models that are part of their lineup?

The irony is that it was introduced in the, "Dive Into Time" event. 30m WR is the most ambiguous rating there is right above Waterproof. Oddly strange of Panerai to release it as such.

With a lever CG and screwed caseback, what's stopping these from being 100M?

Feels like marketing to me - to have a tangible difference between this and the original line.

Random thoughts:

I fond the gold manual wind just stunning. Even at a diminutive (for Panerai) 42mm, I think it is proportioned right with the thin case.

Case looks much better than the 44mm 1950's, IMO.

All of that said, 30m wr is very bad form...and at that rating the crown protector is a joke.

They do have a major difference. 10.5mm is very thin for a Luminor. 40% thinner than regular Luminor to be exact. This is catering to a new breed of buyer that wants a thinner feel like the Radiomir 1940's case but with the crown guard which makes it recognizable as a Panerai.

They are just wanting to appeal to the new clients I think. Most of these people will not give a damn about the rating.

Wish they would have done a radiomir. I like the 388 but the thickness of the case doesn't look right.

30 meters?!?!?!? WTH

The event is called "panerai dive into time" and at 30m wr you can't even take it in the shower much less a pool!

very interesting. have been thinking about Panerai lately but the size of their pieces has put me off. this could change that, though for my tiny wrist even 42mm might not be great sadly.

30m WR at the Dive into Time event

I like the design, but not the price or the seeming abandonment of their diver's heritage.

This looks good. One of the reasons I got the 1940 512 was look of this without the crown guard. I am still not a fan of it, but with these sizes it could grow on me.

30m gotta be a typo from the Panerai's marketing intern.
