Thank you Michael, it sure is spectacular

I’ve been spending a little bit too much time with the loupe that comes with the watch

Might as well bump the thread again with the latest Fratello story.

https://www.fratellowatches.com/what...21-so-special/

Just reinforces what many already know

One thing I must’ve missed during my reading here is the twice over assembly of the movement. Quite a step above

Thanks Cru for the heads up.

Has anyone had any problems with the clasp coming apart on the 321?

A couple of times a spring bar in the clasp has come out when I was taking the watch off resulting in it falling off, I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

It has been the spring bar next to the two 'buttons' you press in to release the clasp which has caused the problems. This spring bar fits into blind holes in the clasp and at first I wondered if one of the blind holes was not deep enough. I also wondered if the spring mechanism or the release buttons moving was somehow compressing the spring bar but I can't see how this could be the problem.

You didn't miss that because no one knew it and (apparently) not even Robert-Jan when he first reviewed it back in 2020. It sound like a plus but I'm not 100% sure that there isn't a little bit of marketing incentive behind this as well... . I'll be sure to talk to my watchmaker and see what he thinks

Thank goodness, no! Quite a dangerous issue to have and I'll have to inspect mine a bit closer to try to better understand the issue...

I actually am going through a roller coaster with this one, from nah it sucks, price to high, to it looks amazing, clean aesthetics and perfect size, weak water proofing, but “amazing” movement.....but is it amazing, just because.
Fast forward to today, we now know it's not cosc or metas and only 50 meters water resistance. We also know about how great of a watch it really is. I suppose when we compare assembly and production procedures compared to the Daytona, for me it seems pure marketing regarding the one watch maker system, as I honestly don't think the 321 is anymore complex than the 4130, finishing aside I would think the 4130 is more complicated.
On the other hand when you think about the production of the Ed White in the same way JLC or Patek assemble and build this type of movement with similar finishing, then the production procedure and numbers seem plausible.

I'm now officially waiting for one, anxiously.

The 321 is really an underrated watch for what it is. Since I got the 321, my Daytona hasn’t seen much wrist time.

As far as complexity, the 4130 movement isn’t that complex at all for a chronograph. Rolex designed it to be robust and easy to service. The movement is pretty simple and put together with only 12 screws. Even the mainspring was designed to be repaired without having to remove the movement from the case. It’s definitely not a Rube Goldberg machine!

…..
I was just thinking about this the other day.

Since I bought my 321 earlier this year I don’t think I’ve worn a Daytona!

For the last couple of months I’ve worn it on a black leather strap with pin buckle because of the clasp problem I mentioned a few posts ago, and I’ve been really happy with it.

I think the original Ed White 321 was from about 1963 which is when I was born and I’ve found that this watch and I get on very nicely together. Some on here have mentioned time keeping and I am lucky in that my 321 is also a very good time keeper, certainly within a second per day.

I wasn’t convinced by the 321 when I first saw it, but having owned and worn it for a few months now I have no regrets at all and it has become my main watch.

Really looking forward to the appreciating and operating the Lemania movement. Such an important milestone in watchmaking… combined with a speedy (again) makes it that much more special.

Now I just have to get through an afternoon at my desk, fortunately pick up is walking distance from office.

Asked the sales person at the boutique if I could swim with the watch.
“Absolutely not” was the reply.

I am not trying to argue with the salesperson or any opinion here but just sharing the response from a boutique employee while picking up my 321.

Big congrats with your pick up. Really pleased for you.

FWIW I took mine on holiday and it’s role was purely evenings. On the basis these can’t be serviced outside Switzerland, I don’t want to risk an issue.

thanks guys.

noteworthy in my quick and crappy and unedited photos is the glaring faux patina..

for the record, I have decided I will swim and shower with it and see what happens. I fully expect it to be ok but of course would be more at ease with 100m rating.

Congrats, Gus!!! It’s a truly special piece that needs to be seen in the metal to fully appreciate!!! I’m just thankful that I’m only a desk diver!

Hopefully, I will get the call very soon! I was told I’m in the July / August allocation. There’s only a few days left . . .

You finally got one. Took long enough. I remember from the beginning you were singing its praises and you were 100% right in your views on this watch. I'm definitely a convert and a big fan of this watch. I know it’s 50m but if I ever receive one I won’t be swimming with a 321, wash hands, sure.
A very big congratulations on finally receiving yours. It’s a masterpiece.

Congrats! It’s a great watch.

For what it’s worth, I wear mine in the water. Omega website directly says you can. Also, it’s not faux-tina! It was designed to mimic the original lume color that was direct from factory in 1965. Those original Ed whites had the same off white color lume brand new.

Can’t blame the collectors community for not having confidence in the 50m rating. While omegas literature is clear that 50m is ok to swim, the general education does not always agree.
Salespersons replies regarding 50m
Omega re 321 for swimming “absolutely not”
AP re 15202 “I wouldn’t wear it in steamy bathroom”

Thanks Rashid. Had to be a fan as the watch checked every box I had imagined, 39mm size and lemania movement at the top of the list followed by every little dial and bezel choice and the completely unexpected crystal solution straddling the hesalite vs sapphire debate perfectly.
