Can someone explain this 5513 dial to me?

This is my 1986 5513.

I have asked multiple watchmakers. Hard to be sure what has caused this. Not your classic spider dial.

Looks like a combination of spidering and scratching.

My theory: Someone stored the dial unprotected in a box of other loose parts, which caused the scratches and probably exacerbated the spidering.

Discuss.

It's certainly different than the usual spider cracking, which generally has straight connecting lines.

This is just the very thin outer lacquer cracking seen it on a 16610 once….what eventually happens is that in places it lifts and flakes off, signs of this happening already between HR mkt 7 and 8 and the crescent under the 1 HR marker looks like it's about to pucker (potentially going into the calibre or hanging about the rehaut like an unwanted dinner guest) and leaving a slightly more matte segment in its wake, which is not that becoming in my eyes, but if you already own it it might go ten years before worsening so no real biggie if you leave it and at least it's (almost) unique in appearance - but others may differ on that view as beauty is in the eye of beholder and all that…
Edit: Forgot to mention that while this is less intrusive than a spider dial that can on occasion crack through numerous layers numerous layers they are usually very stable after the initial cracking. This though will be progressive and there is nothing you can do to halt it or speed it up. Worst case scenario a good used t dial on a 5513 86 to early 90s are circa 15-20% of watch value at c $1500-2000 and these puppies are going up that amnt every 15 months anyway ! :-)
Ps One dealer I know would in these crazy times probably up-sell this, and say it has a rare flaky pastry dial !

This is just a very bad condition dial. I wouldn’t pay anything for this!

Lacquer cracking/crazing likely due to moisture ingress at some point, even minimal dampness rather than flooding.

Who cares about collectors and if someone wouldn't touch it. At the right price I would buy and wear it.

Out of curiosity for the OP, are you the original owner of the watch? If so, when and how did this damage start to appear?

No, I got the watch 4 years ago. No idea, that is why I am reaching out. When I first got the watch I just figured it was some unique patina. But I have not seen one like this since, so I am very confused.

It looks pretty cool,if you want an original look you could find an old dial. But I wouldn't, I'd just wear it like that.
Maybe more pics could give a clue, it looks like a combo of scratches and paint defect to me, like zapokee said.

Ice-Skating-Rink dial or pre-Zamboni dial…

In response to the OP's question, the dial is severely damaged.

For me, it really doesn't matter how the damage occurred, just that it occurred.

But, if you like it, I like it.

Curious, did you buy it like that or did that happen over your ownership period?
