While I understand the inclination to go 5711 as it is such an iconic watch, to me the 5712/1a has more Patek DNA with the added complications and asymmetrical dial.
As much as I like the 5740, it’s WG and not suited for everyday wear in my opinion. If it wasn’t a Nautilus, the 5164a would also fit the bill. It’s a real low key watch |

The first watch that came to mind. Omg what a watch. Don’t have one but if I did I don’t see the need or desire to ever take it off

I'd go with the 5522a.

It’s new, but the 5326G is ticking a lot of boxes. Great complications and can be dressed up or down depending on strap choices.

Another vote for 5164 (A) or (R). I have had many chronos and never used it. And I am heavily involved in a hobby that does a lot of timing.... it is really not very practical at all these days. Maybe in the 70's it was. The 5164 GMT is so easy to use as well. I suppose if you never travel, this would be less attractive.

Agree: 5164a (or r) - though I'm extremely biased ;)

Another vote for the 5164a, also bit bias but based on wrist time and affection. I think the only one that could compete for me the 5712/1a but the 5164a is more comfortable and more discreet and perfect for travel so for that reason gets my vote.

If I had to own only one Patek, it would be the 5196 calatrava 11/10. It is quintessential Patek, and historically important.

Cannot agreed more. I actually prefer dress watches nowadays, but 5164a will still be my 'the one'.

5740 or a 59901r/59801r
Green dial 5711 with the baguette bezel if you could get it. All 3 can be sporty, can be blingy, can be dressy. |

It is too hard to just one watch
one famous HK watch collector said, as a man, we need 3 watches for a life a dress watch, a causal watch, a sport watch..... |

This is it for me........ the real question is what is the ultimate 3 watch collection! I have about 40 watches and seriously considering selling the lot, and using the proceeds received to buy the ultimate 3 watch collection - with one dress, casual and sport apiece...

I don't care for diamonds on watches. But honestly.......with Patek I reconsider my stance. So I stand firm saying it is sporty, dressy, and blingy. You need all 3 for a 1 watch collection to fit every type of setting.

It has taken me almost 1 month to think about my 1-Patek collection but I will go with this one. It is very comfortable, light, legible and doesn't need a pusher to set date/month/moonphase.
And most importantly, it is beautiful AF and I can live with this for the rest of my life. IMG_20220803_091817_(800_x_1080_pixel).jpg |

Well, I hate to admit it but I am with Michael. I find my 5711 white on my wrist more than any other. If I could only have one , it would have to be this one :-))
