6263 Big Red - Watch serial not matching the pushers MK
Hi all looking for some help on another watch, this time a 6263 Big Red with a 5.5m serial
From JM_FR thread below - it seems that based on the serial number 5.5m it would be have to have MK1 pushers and this example has MK2 - does this seem right? Also the Daytona spacing also alludes to it being a 5.5 / MK1 setup. For 6263, are these watches commonly counterfeited? Any guidance would be appreciated 1 - MK1 - No Daytona - T-Swiss-T at 6 - serial range 2.08-2.8m --> is this correct? - Pushers: millerighe for the earliest (up to c. 2.2m), then Mk0 2.2-2.8 and Mk1 for 2.8-3.05m 2 - Sigma - No Daytona - σT SWISS Tσ at 6 (either large or small) - serial range: 2.8m-4.x? - Pushers: MK0 (no line, tight vertical cranges until serial 3.0m 1972) or MK1 3 - Sigma Big Red - Big Red Daytona - σT SWISS Tσ at 6 (either large or small) - serial range: 3.9m-4.2 ? I have also read 5.2-5.5m range - Pushers? 4 - Big Red - Big Red Daytona - T-SWISS-T at 6 - serial range: 4.1m-Rxxx ? - Pushers? MK1 (no line, until serial 6.0m/6.5m 1980/81) or MK2 (line) |

It looks like you are discovering the Rolex vintage world and you opened a few threads with questionable watches / parts. It’s a very tough world and I would advise to read / research more on the subject and buy from a reputable vintage dealer.

A 6263 with a 5.5 million serial originally (from the factory) would have had the pushers without the lines, but it's pretty close to the switch over. Perhaps the watch was serviced at some point and the pushers were changed to the later style.
In the scheme of things for a "Big Red" and the money involved, this is a fairly minor issue. Nothing wrong with having slightly later pushers, and if it really bothers you, replace them for a relative pittance compared to the price of the watch. I'd worry far more about overall condition and authenticity of every part. Not sure which of those watches is being considered in the OP, but note that the Daytona with writing on the photo has a service bezel, which is a far more significant issue money-wise than the pushers, although only if your goal is no service parts. Nothing wrong with a service bezel, of course. Good luck in your search. |

It’s clearly been serviced at some point as it has a service bezel so not a big surprise that the pushers were probably changed at the same time.

This is exactly the information I've been looking for (Image... crown and pusher) the comparisons between the 6263. Can you please tell me where you found this resource. Was it a website or a book. Either way it would help me do my homework before I make a purchase.

In answer to one of your questions, the vintage Daytonas are one of the most counterfeited vintage models.

Personally I’d be looking to someone like Andrew Shear or Eric Ku to find the right watch for me. |
