Something weird has happened...

I tried on a Grey Side of the Moon Omega over the weekend and was totally impressed by it. I am still a devoted Rolex fan, but the GSotM is absolutely gorgeous. Anyone else here find this watch a worthy addition if all your other watches are Rolex timepieces?

i do like a lot of other chronos and even omega offerings -- but the original speedy pro is the only speedy pro imop.

Variety is the spice of life. I have always been a fan of Brietling and Doxa, and just recently started in with Rolex.

Yes. I also own the very first release of the Omega Planet Ocean 2500; only other that is part of the rotation with my Rolex watches.

There is a big horological world out there besides Rolex. Why wouldn't you want to add Omega or any other well established brand to your collection?? It's not like any of these brands are inferior to the Rolex as it's more of a personal style choice.

I agree. For me, Rolex represents a small minority of my collection and there are many other brands that offer equally satisfying watches (sometimes for a lot less money, too).

But this particular Omega is a strong PASS. I have no need for the stress of a ceramic case in my life. And 44mm is too big for that watch.

I love them. Great modern interpretation of a classic design with state of the art movement. What's not to love?

Omegas make great watches and are probably a better overall value although Rolex resale prevails, so buy right and buy second hand.

Remember you're on TRF and the same guys that go NO are often the same fan boys that go ape crazy and are willing to spend thousands more on a Daytona that's practically no different than it was twenty years ago except a ceramic bezel!

I love a lot of what Omega is doing these days. My only beef is the thickness of their watches.

Absolutely, I agree GSOTHM is a beautiful watch. I personally prefer the Dark Side of the Moon, which is on my short list.

Wrong subforum but it is one is my favorite Omega pieces.... I totally agree it's a great buy at the current going rate... Great movement, stunning lume/aesthetics.... Just a great watch... Anyone talking negatively about the size hasn't had one on their wrist, they wear very well in terms of weight balance and fit:

I think it's a winner.

Very pricey but solid choice. Far more interesting than a Daytona.

The Ceramic Speedy family has some amazing offerings. I'm partil to the original DSOTM, but the grey is also gorgeous. Nothing wrong with adding variety to the collection.

The only reason I don't have one is I need a higher WR for swimming. Other than that, it is one of the most advanced chrono designs I love. Ceramic is the way to go if you are OCD about wear marks. They will look mint/pristine forever. I have a B&R Carbon ceramic and it will not show a mark, other than a diamond nothing is harder.

I owned a speedmaster moon with the 9300 but in the steel case. I found the sapphire back to be too tall and made the watch fit uncomfortably for me. Combined with the loud movement and flimsy bracelet I couldn't flip it soon enough. For the price I expected more.

Although it was absolutely stunning to look at. The aesthetic is one of the best out there and this applies to the sides of the moon series as well.

i personally find any watch other than a rolex a worthy addition when one owns all rolexes.

when someone only owns rolexes they are not watch fans. they are rolex fans.

diversity is a must in any collection.

Much prefer the DSotM. Great watch, but the depreciation on Omega keeps me away. Made that mistake once, would need to be quite the watch to go there again.

Thank you everyone for the feedback! As others have mentioned, depreciation on this and other Speedys seems to be pretty steep, which is why I have decided that if I do decide to get one, it would have to be second hand. Perusing some of the TRF trusted seller listings, it looks like $6,200 to $6,500 is the going rate for a mint GSotM time piece. So, that will likely be my route.

I was particularly impressed by how well it wore and felt on the wrist. Very light, and it definitely didn't feel like a 44mm case.

yea make sure to get it used. Im trying to move my DSOTM to finance my 116500ln and can't even give it away at less then half of what it costs new. resale value is horrible on Omegas. Looks like ill just keep it and sell my 116613LB instead which I hate to get rid of.

I absolutely love the xSOTM watches. Incredibly comfortable on the wrist with an amazing movement inside. No regrets from this owner!

I like the design but the watch is too big and too thick IMO.
