Waiting list follow up
Hi all,
How often have you followed up with your AD while on a waitlist? Also did you find doing so helpful in obtaining it quicker? Also this assumes you are not purchasing something else during the waitlist time. |

Waiting lists are not necessarily kept in chronological order

It’s a balance in my opinion. I’ll check in every 3-6 months. I try not to contact sales people unless it’s about new business in general. This way I’ll never be labeled a tire kicker. Ymmv

It kind of depends on what watch you are waiting for, how much you have spent, how long you have waited and how long more to go. You probably will know whether you have a realistic chance of landing that watch or not. These are some common replies by ADs:
Tell you an estimated timing - to follow up at the end of the ETA. If you trust your AD to call you, just wait patiently. Tell you next shipment, but don't know when is the next shipment - to follow up every quarter. If you trust your AD to call you, just wait patiently. Tell you 2 to 20 years - go to another AD or buy from TS Tell you waiting list is closed - go to another AD or buy from TS Tell you there are customers who ask about this watch every 5 min - go to another AD or buy from TS |

This is an interesting question. I have found quite a variation in the reaction I get from ADs. A couple of years ago I added my name to lists at just a few dealers in the UK, for a piece I did not (and still do not) have. I have purchased other watches since from two of those ADs.
Some staff don't seem to want to sit down and have a proper chat (even though it is a quiet Monday afternoon for example), and some are happy to exchange views and advice. I don't have the 'gift of the gab' that some members on here seem to, but I am always polite and express genuine collector's interest. If I was the salesperson, even if they knew I was not near the top of the 'list' yet, I would show some other nice watch options to get my interest while waiting. They miss opportunities by not having a proper chat IMO. So overall I tend to drop in when I get the urge, or when passing, and I tend to ask if they have any of a certain variant in, as well as reminding them I am on the list for x. I really value it when the dealer is polite and encouraging with me, and willing to offer a drink and chat. For example, I was in Chicago recently and visited a main AD, where the sales person was excellent and spent an hour with me, letting me try on new release Basel 2018 pieces, even though she had none to sell me (they were allocated to customers). She also gave me very useful advice for my future collection. |

think about the people getting an iPhone on launch day camping out for weeks. They will appreciate the passion.
That is just a phone
