Icon20 Stowa Marine Original

I'm seriously considering this watch as the next one to add to my collection as well as the Nomos Tangente 38.
I definitely need to add a white dial and even though I have the Nomos Club, it's really more silver than white. The Stowa, on the other hand, is glossy white, just the right size (40mm), and at a great price point from a company with a rich 90 year history.
I'd be interested to hear the forums thoughts, especially from anyone who owns this piece.

If you already have a Nomos, why not try a Stowa? I have a Nomos Tangente, never had a Stowa, but admire them.

It does tick all of the boxes for what I'm looking for. The only downside is that you have to order directly from Stowa so there's no way to see it in person or try it on before buying.

Will they take it back if you really don't like it? I have eyeballed stowa pieces for a while now as a "value" watch collector. My Nomos Metro ticks the white dial box for me but I am never opposed to adding another, as long as I will wear it.

Isn't the Marine Original 41mm??

Have you looked at Archimede? Their deck watch is on my short list at the moment. 42mm. Clean dial and 6498 hand wound eta. True pilot watch to me. And at 50% of the cost of the Stowa. Their quality is out of this world at the price point. Here are two of mine. They have other models that may fit the 40mm option. Let me look.

Edit: they have a klassic that is 39mm with an sellita auto and a 1950's at 39 with a citizen auto.

Yes you're correct. It is 41mm.
I've read that Stowa has excellent customer service so I guess it could be returned.
I've heard of Archimede and particularly like their Deckwatch.

I have one coming in Bronze at some point. My AD spoke to them at Basel again. They just got in and installed my domed crystal for the Chrono. Waiting on fed ex to return it.

Hi Mr SemperFi
The Stowa MO is definately a Bang for the Buck and Heck !Collectors are certainly taking a keen interest ,I've never heard a complaint against it anyway.Just a gentle reminder that the Stowa dial just painted over to mimic an enamel dial but it's not your "Seiko Presage Enamel-ish dial"

Before your commit yourself to the Stowa MO, I want you to check out another very under-rated German timepiece, a brand I learnt from Mr Al of Archer Watches,an independent watch repairman/watchmaker and official resident of the Omega forum

The Dornblueth & Sohn 99.0

Thanks for bringing the Dornblueth to my attention. It certainly is a nice looking watch.

We have a couple members here that have/had DD's in the past. Great looking watches from a small independent shop. Little different price point than a Stowa I believe. Is that piece that you attached pictures of about $3500-$4000USD??

I do like it and it looks very much like the Stowa but not at three times the price.

Point taken Sir and that was precisely the answer I was expecting from you Mr SemperFi but show me a Stowa MO and I will show you 5 different budget watches
(minus the brand name on the dial) that looks exactly like a Stowa MO .It does take a little gloss off the watch doesnt it ?

No, I wouldn't say that look alike budget watches that look like the MO take any gloss away from Stowa. They don't have the history that Stowa has.
Much like the many imitators of the Submariner do not in any way take any gloss away from Rolex.

Although I'm not a chrono guy, that is sharp looking.

Holy . I really like the look of that. I have obe or two too many Chronos at the moment but that in a non Chrono version would be a stunner. Now I have to go find a Stowa dealer.

Nice. It's about $150 less than if ordered directly from Stowa.

As a marine chronometer lover myself, nothing beats the Lange 1815 - but its a bit spendy for some - so there is that.

If I were to go with a Dorblueth & Sohn, the 99.1 with applied numberals is the way go - that oversized sub seconds hand is

picture complementary of the interweb:

Lastly - the Stowa is completely respectable in every way as well.

I don't have a marine, but I do have 2 Stowas. Great watches, IMHO. These are mine. I'm a sucker for blue dials. Although, they don't look that blue in this pic.
