Looks big for what it is, however you can pull it off.
I think it would look better in 40.

The short lugs save you, IMO. If the lugs were longer, I would say consider the 40. Looks good to me.

Here is a shot of an IWC Portofino in 45mm from afar. Not wearing the GP in case I want to flip.

looks like the lugs don't overhang your wrist, but I would still flip the GP. In my opinion, the dial is way too large and empty

It's bigger than I'd be comfortable wearing. Matter of style I suppose, but I think this type of watch looks best in more modest proportion.

that looks really good to me size wise. As you initially stated, you were going for more of a casual type of dress watch not a dressy dress watch. That is what one looks like to me so the GP is fine too

Although my preference is the IWC vs the GP. They are both nice, I'm just more of an IWC fan myself.

Both the GP and IWC look way too big, to me. However, wear whatever you like.

It's OK, but it's not a dress watch ...

As a dress watch it is unquestionably too big. The strap gracefully should flow away from the watch in an arc extending from the lugs like it was Thelma and Louise leaving the cliff, not take a sharp right angle like it's confused and trying to catch a loose chicken.

Casual, especially in white, it's bigger than ideal but as you've heard many think it's just fine.

Size is relative to be style of watch and the size of your wrist. From my opinion, yes that's too large, for both reasons. First, I am not against big watches. One of my dailies is a 47mm breitling gmt. I'm also near 6'6" and 275-280. However, for that style watch which is excellent and classy, anything over 40mm IMO is too large. At my size I would not go above 40mm for that style.

Regardless, big watches are in so no one will bat an eye so it's really just personal preference.

Good looking watch btw

I think it looks to large for your wrist. With so many options why have a watch that is either too large or small. If you are asking you know the answer already.

It's too big, especially for a dress watch. The 40mm would be a much better fit.

Far too big for a dress watch, but right size for a dive watch.
