Submariner Post-service

Hi all. I have a '71 Submariner that's been in our family since new. I've had it for twenty years and it just had its second service (yes, I know, I know...). Thing is, the automatic movement now seems very tight. It was very loose previously and I could easily feel when it was swinging around inside the watch. Now I can barely detect it. Nevertheless, it still seems to wind ok, and stops if I take it off for three or so days. Had I just got used to a badly out of tune watch? Or is something wrong for it to seem so tight? Thanks for your help.

Cheers
Brett

Ok I realise from the avalanche of responses this was probably a silly question but can anyone at least tell me if the movement is supposed to be very easily discernible swinging around inside or not? Thanks

Welcome to TRF.
Sounds like it is functioning properly now.
IMO Rolex movements are quiet and smooth compared to other watches I've had. Even my 50 year old Sub is like that.
How about a pic? We like pics here.

With all this assistance it really is the least I can do. Guess I'm going into town to the jewellers

I never notice the sound or feel the movement on a Rolex. Some brands (Patek) you will notice audibly. If it is functioning properly I would not be concerned.

I started experiencing a slight feeling of the rotor spinning of my Sub at times when I would move in a way that caused a "high torque" swing of my arm. I reached out to my watchmaker who advised that if it's been a few years since a service, the lubricant can dry out at a particular spot (I think he said it had to do with the rotor post?)... anyway, he recommended bringing it in for him to assess, but also said it won't affect timekeeping.

Sounds like it's been worn and the service has returned it to normal spec.

Nothing to be concerned about. Your watch is most likely now running correctly

For what it is worth, my 4 month old Sub (bought new) has no discernible rotor movement or noise at all. If it's running and keeping acceptable time and has a few days reserve that suggests that all is good with your Sub.

Welcome to TRF !

I bought a '72 Submariner 5513 and heard and felt the watch wind. Many people said this was normal. Once I got a proper service, not normal at all!
