Congratulations!!!! I retired from my full time LE job last April after 25 years. I still work a day or two here and there, but on my terms. Got my CDL and drive a school bus 5 hours a day for the school system where I live. Got zero health benefits for the family when I retired. By driver job covers health care and that's about it. My part time LE and off duty details is my play money. I'd suggest taking about six months off to decide on your next step.

Congrats on your retirement so early! I wish that i could have done that....and start another one. I "retired" at 49 and 3 months from IBM sales but i have never worked again.
My wife gets S.S. and small pension from Wells Fargo but we live off savings and cant wait till I get S.S. ( I turn 60 in Oct) Some say the second career was better than the first....my friend from IBM went from sales to tour groups on Harleys to the Grand Canyon for his new career which would be 1000 better than working for IBM!

Congrats! Hubby retired from the military (5 years active, 16 reserves) when he was 39. He retired from his police job just 4 years later. He went to culinary school after that and is now 12 years into his third career. We'll both retire for good in just 3 more years when he turns 60.

That's awesome! Have a whale of a time and enjoy your freedom to the fullest.
I'm in my 30's and have around 50k saved up. came across this article, looks true but what do you think about it http://www.cashsyndrome.com/save-mil...ollars-retire/ ? Are these strategies realistic?

That's awesome! You may only be 44, but I'm quite sure you've earned it.
Good luck in career #2!

Good for you. Society has cast such aspersions on our local law enforcement heroes. If all they had to do was fight crime I bet many would stay. Thank you and take a year off. No rush.

Henry, your statement is so true! I had many good years left in me, but it's just not worth it.
