Help me choose my next watch - PP vs AP
Finally in a position to treat myself after a year of spending money on renovating a house, a wedding, a honeymoon etc.
Having a hard time choosing despite various threads on the forums, so I am keen to gauge some more opinions Whilst a firm believer in going with what sings to you, I am finding all four are singing loudly. Which one is singing loudest is yet to be decided! Please help wise forum. |

For it it's AP Chrono, PP Aquanaut, PP Nautilus, then AP non-chrono.
That order would change if you could get the nautilus in the blue dial. Then it would be Nautilus first. |

Of these 4 clearly the 5711 is the one I prefer, if it was in competition with a Jumbo or a blue 15300, I would probably choose an AP, but if these are the choices then clearly the PP, for white dials the only one I really love is the 15300, not a huge fan of other AP white dials, but all 4 choices are great ones. Of course I prefer the blue 5711, but the white one is still my favorite of these 4

The white dial Nautilus and Aquanaut look so uninspired next to those Royal Oaks IMO.

Dial color is key
I'm no fan of the white dial of the 5711 - it looks like a reject from a washing machine factory. The silver dial of the 15400 is very nicely done and has real depth to it.
If you really want depth and subtlety in your dial then look a the blue dial 5711 and blue dial 15400, both are well worth pursuing and waiting for. The 5167 is a neat watch in that it flies well under the radar. The dial is also quite subtle, going from black through gray to an almost brown color depending on the light. Spending time looking at all your options up close would be well worth it to avoid second guessing and buyer's remorse... |

I personally prefer the Pateks over AP. I think it's just personal preference as I really like the AP, but I just feel like I would tire of the octagonal bezel, and I feel like it draws more attention to the watch. The Pateks I guess are slightly more "conventional", but still very unique.
I used to think I would prefer a 5167 over a 5711, as I love the sunburst dial with the global pattern over the horizontal stripes, and the comfort of the rubber strap, but recently I have been more interested in the 5711, especially in white. It's unique but understated enough to wear daily. |

The Aquanaut looks like a hand-grenade. Complete fail.
White dial 5711. Wrong! Get the blue, or even better the 5712 steel. Everyone knows that a Royal Oak looks best without a second hand. Get the blue Jumbo in steel. IMO. |

Blue Naut and blue 400 would be my first choices if you lived in US but as you don't I'd go for the white Naut.

I voted 5167. If the 5711 was the blue dial, that would be the winner

I think the Nautilus looks best on your wrist, however, I'd take the blue one.
Owned a 5167 before and was really underwhelmed with it, so sold it after a month. Maybe have a look at the 5164 travel time, I find it more interesting because of the more substantial case and added complication. It is also easier to obtain and can be had for good prices pre-owned. Good luck with your decision. |

To me, the White 5711 wins hands down. Just see Martin's picture above...
You will be amazed at how much the dial changes depending on the light, going from white to ivory, silvery and some greyish shades. If still in doubt, see the pictures in this old thread: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=305772 |

The 5711 looks great on your wrist. Perfect size and I prefer the white to the blue as they are not seen as much and works with all other colors.

Surprised to see ROC ahead of 15400 in the poll results... I always liked it, but felt that for most member of this community it was sort of the 'least loved' RO. Glad to see this is not the case, despite the lack of in-house movement that is so criticized. I am considering adding one to the collection ;-)

If you're only going to get one watch, I think the 5711 and 15400 are most compelling. The 5711 could serve you as your one and only watch for a lifetime, but it's a fair whack more expense than your other choices. The 15400 is comparable to the 5711 at a fraction of the price, and so the RO gives the best cost to value ratio.
The problem is, adding a PP doesn't scratch the AP itch and vice versa. Going with the 15400 now and adding a PP down the track may be your best solution. I did something very similar and have a 15400/5167. |
