5524r

Everyone I talk to about this watch thinks it's a dog watch. I can trade if for a 5712. Thoughts?

I think is a beautiful watch , a little contradictory of its original intention but looks cool. I have the original 5524G and love it , it’s an everyday watch , so legible , great lume with a useful complication. I think the fact that is white gold is the key here for how I use it. Meaning white gold makes the watch understated and therefore easier to use on a daily basis and I love that I can do that. So for me G is the only choice. But if this watch you are not intending to use as daily then I think is fine, looks beautiful.

As far as price retention on this one, I think the jury is still out. Right now is hot/new but I think it should behave in a similar way as the the G brother

Cheers

I prefer this in G (see Jorge's above). Not sure of the trade-in value, but the 5712/1a for me all day over the R. Is the 5712/1a BNIB? From an AD?

Good luck with the decision.

Is 'a dog watch' good or bad in the context of the people you are talking to?

I felt it was a bit flat on me so I'd go for the 12 for sure.

Personally, I have a big problem with the pushers sticking out on the left hand side. It just looks so off to me. Of course, this is purely subjective. The 5524R will certainly stand out on the wrist but I think the 5712 will wear better.

I have large wrists and the 5524r fits perfectly. I have come from AP ownership so a large fitting watch is not alien to me. I also own a SS Nautilus and together they make the perfect combo.

One minor factor that I do appreciate with the 5524 is that as I get older and the eyes start to struggle the dial is so easy to read without glasses. 👍

A classic in waiting, not sure, but I have no plans to sell.

100% agree, thats a great point if you can handle APROO you will have cero problems with this one. The watch interferes the most to the least on my collection below
26401RO > 126660 > 5524 > 116500

Also agree is the struggle with the eyesight , such a savior

It seems these are becoming more available and most people prefer the G version over the R.

An interesting question is - is the 5524 a sports watch or a dress watch? Pilot watches seem to be classified in the sports watch category, but Patek includes this watch in their Calatrava family of watches.

It’s a nice watch, but I’d rather have the 12.

as ive said on previous threads i prefer the 5524g

as for trading mmmm persona choice, and i have owned the 5712 before the craze went mad for ss nautilus, and i got rid of mine

will it be a straight trade if you go ahead with it, which means you will be down in money terms, and could you live with that

.

5726

5712 first, then 5524

imo 5524 is the kind of watch that is a good addition to a collection but not an only or main watch

It’s definitely not a “dog”.

I understand that one might consider a timepiece a dog because it doesn’t hold value as other timepieces, but I don’t believe that retaining value should be the only benchmark.

I like it in R and midsize but its an acquired taste....I think the R may be more popular in the Far East as well as the size and I am guessing that was a deliberate segment that PP were aiming for.
