Refin?

I suspect a vintage refinish. Case back indicates early 1950s.

At some point I’ll get it opened up for close examination. For now, I’m just seeking opinions on print font and markers.

Thanks for any input.

Looks good to me. Ive noticed that printing wasnt as crisp on the uneven surface of a waffle dial. Also, the printing back then wasnt as defined as it is today.

The term Datejust was first used in '55 ? (I think)

What about the missing “SWISS” at 6 o’clock?

Sorry. The second pic is the 6 o’clock marker upside down...

Oh ok, I thought that was the 9-O'clock position. Ive seen quite a few watches from that era where the SWISS mark was nicely hidden below the rehaut. Drop the movement out of the case and inspect. It may be there.

If it was repainted, it was very tastefully done and most likely done many, many years ago.

Refin?

The six o’clock with a lume dot on the hour marker seems unusual. Those with such a marker usually had an angular lume applied.

The fonts look right, but a good Refinishers would have that available methinks. The “j” looks wiggly waffle dials were better than that.

Might indicate a fully restored dial.

Jacek had one for sale a few years back - his pics show a 1955 DJ for comparison

So this dial is in a 6518 cal 1035... that weird Oysterdate Perpetual. I’ve never seen one of these with Datejust branding. They were both sold concurrently in the early 50s.

Bi have the black dialed one. This looks redone by comparison. Will look for a scan of it.
