My previously-owned 1601 with superluminova service dial/hands

I secretly love service dial - they bring a new-old-stock look to a vintage Rolex

5513

This is my 5513 that dates from 1968, Rolex service dial and hands from possibly 30 odd years ago, it has no lume now and during its last service Rolex advised the dial was beginning to deteriorate this was 6 years before it came into my ownership.

So is it the consensus now, after the vintage red rebuild and the 1675 RSC thread - both stating that their original parts were returned - that Rolex will return original parts, when requested and paid for? Can we (the internet) stop saying they won’t!?

I’m sending my ‘68 GMT long E MK1 in soon. I love the watch, it’s new to me after spending 50 years as the daily wearer of the original owner, but I want it to run well and have usable lume.

RSC New York did not return my original parts. It said on the receipt that parts are replaced on a trade-in basis.

I guess I will choose to send mine to RSC PA/Lilitz. It appears they will return parts, based on threads here.

Good to know about NY, I’ll avoid them.

In 2006 I became convinced Rolex was pulling the plug on servicing the 1570 so I had this 1675 and a couple of others serviced at Dallas RSC and of course, here we are 12 years later and they are still at it. No matter, they are nice to have. :)

My original dial was fine but I became intrigued by this new service nipple dial with luminova but still marked Tritium. How long would these be available for a watch that stopped production 40 years ago? At any rate, here is a nipple service dial with luminova marked Tritium.

I love this watch a lot! I tried to get a good photo of the service dial but as you can see it no longer illuminates in the dark. So this dial must have lost that ability many decades ago.

Acquired the red sub with service dial from Justin Blau (Perfection of Time). Great guy.

Awesome pieces. The great thing about this club is being a member, with my 1968 1675. Love it. Modern-vintage. Best of both worlds.

Just epic. Its a shame one cant pick up a beaten up Red Submariner and get a new Service dial with red lettering. The whole exercise would be counter-productive and damned expensive. Still, a really lovely watch.

Those Red service dials are to die for. Why did Rolex stop making them available?

From what I have read, in order to obtain a 'Red' luminova dial from Rolex you have to produce a 1680 with an existing and yet compromised original Red dial. This may still require authentication prior to it being swapped over.

What an amazing watch. That is guaranteed to look as good as it does in that photo for many years to come.

Arguably the best of both worlds! Vintage looks with bright, working lume! Also, great value too if you can buy it on the secondary market, because the vintage Rolex market doesn't value replacement service dials compared with original dials. Please keep those pics coming.

My 1675 in Finland. It’s currently out-of-action waiting an 8039 hour hand. I bought it because of the service dial and handset I wanted the functionality of the lume and the classic proportions of the 1675/16750.
