That's not how it works, you don't pick nicknames; they just end up happening, for good or bad (mostly the latter -- woof, the names that have stuck! Some are pretty awful.)

That all said, I know the nicknames so as to follow along, but just use model numbers typically when discussing Rolex (Rolex model numbers are so easy! Omega's the brand that needs some more nicknames ROFL.)

Haven't heard anything yet that I think will stick. Could be wrong, though...

It already has one, sd43. Sorry but it is way way better than all the lousy ones. Why try so hard to change a thing not broken.

A good name might pop up unexpectedly, but seldom can be achieved by hard efforts.

I kind of think the superhero and food related nicknames are kind of silly in the first place, I’m perfectly fine with SD43 or SD50.

Whichever member gets the first one of a new model ought to have a strong say in it, I'd think. Sort of like calling shotgun - gotta see it first.

If I'm first to receive the new jubilee GMT, between the red and blue and web-like jubilee bracelet, you'd better believe it'll be the Spiderman. Pepsi can remain the Pepsi, new GMT is the Spiderman.

As for the topic at hand, I like SD43, no need to force a superhero name.

SD50 because.. The official name is Sea-Dweller 50th anniversary.

Damn I'm so glad I own a Rolex that doesn't have a lame nickname.

I couldn't imagine calling my watch the hulk. Or batman. You guys make me cringe.

With other famous Rolex novelties having names like Batman, President, Fat lady, and Superman GMT etc. I have to agree that the SD43 needs to have a very cool handle.

The best way I can think of to do this is everyone comes up with a name then at the end of the month based on seconds, and votes we pick a WINNER.

So far:

Vader,

The Red Bull,

and Big Red,

Are ideas I have seen. But I am sure no one is smarter than all of us, as far as coming up with a name for this new iconic model.

So get to brainstorming gentlemen! We have a Rolex to name.

I realize the OP is new here but this was discussed at length when it came out in '17. The two names debated were the SD50 for 50th Anniversary, and SD43 for the 43mm diameter. It seems SD43 has caught on better though I see an SD50 occasionally. I'll refer to it as the SD43, not Spiderman, Black Widow, Darth Vader, Single Red (that's used for older SD's and Subs already) or any other name. Not because I hate the comic book nicknames, which I do for the most part, but because this matter has already been settled.

Have a nice day.

Ha ha - it's just that I find the monstrous size of the new SD a tad BigMac-ish. Fat and not a healthy and sustainable way for watch sizes in the future. More slim lugs, please.

Having said that, this Basel seems to leave the bigger, fatter and going more with slimmer and smaller.

So, maybe the cyclop'd SD will be an outcast in the future in the Rolex collection.

SD43 is in wide use and simple enough.

Those are awful, who would call an expensive timepiece/watch by that?.......nicknames from sci-fi and comic books are for children, not for watches. The nicknames like "Hulk", "Batman", etc., are just plain stupid

SD43 only requires 4 keystrokes. Unless one can think of something shorter , it’s pretty darn efficient .

You do realize you're referring to Scarlett Johansson who plays the talented assassin, Natasha Romanova a.k.a Black Widow of the Avengers, right ?

Reading some of the responses I'm thinking everyone is leaning towards SD43and maybe there is not a lot of reverence for creative horse play. LOL

But I must persist I still think guys here can come up with something better to call it than the SD43. It just sounds to much like something a lab tech would name and experimental drug.

I do have to agree though another superhero name would be leaning towards childish. I was hoping for something interesting that links it's past to its current form. But I digress, maybe it is doomed to have a name that sounds like an offsite government warehouse...

Cheers fellas.

Who decides nicknames for Rolex models? Because the SD43 needs a new handle.

It may make some sense though, because once you are bit by this bug you're doomed to pay 12 gray+ LOL
