Rolex Sky Dweller? Or a Vacheron Constantin Overseas Chrono?
I'm fortunate to have an opportunity to obtain either a VC overseas chronograph in blue or Rolex Sky Dweller in black, both stainless steel version. Cost is very close, except that the Overseas chronograph is a mint used one vs the Rolex is brand new. I like both for different reasons but can't have both of them at the same time. The VC is the 5500v current gen which brand new MSRP is at $30k
What would you pick? And why? |

I’d go VC as between those two. It seems a WG Daytona Blue face would be a more equivalent comparison. In that case, go Daytona.

That is very tough, both stunning blue hues, I'd maybe side with the SkyD but I really like both watches. The VC also comes with the bracelet right? Otherwise no deal.

I personally like the overseas chrono, I tried it a few weeks ago loved it. I forget what I was quoted but the sales person was able to get me a pretty sizable discount. I love the box and presentation of the watch as well.
The VC should come with bracelet, rubber strap and a leather strap. It’s quick change |

If I am just basing it on looks alone then I feel the SkyD has a cleaner more eye catching appeal to it. I do not care for the band on the VC...
They are both good looking watches and I do like that the VC is not as common as a Rolex... If that is the right way to say it. You can ask a 1000 people and get all kinds of answers... It really boils down to which one sings to you. To me the Black SkyD wins hands down between these two. Good luck...

Ive never heard of the Vacheron time piece and I’m sure it’s build quality and craftsmanship are elite, however, from an appearance stand point, the Sky Dwellar hits you like a ton of bricks. It looks special. My vote goes to the crown.

SkyDweller for me is an easy choice and most bang for the buck of any watch I have ever owned. I have owned 3 VC’s over the years and wasn’t overly impressed. This Rolex is one versatile workhorse and the Rolex Ring Command is ingenious.

I'd get the VC and wait for a better deal on the Sky D.

Sky dweller for me, beautiful annual calendar combined with a GMT function and a good depth rating.
It is imho the one watch which can do everything you want or need

I'd go with the VC. It's one of the holy trinity and that blue dial is just stunning. Comes with 2 straps and a bracelet if I remember correctly. It's really 3 watches in one. VC is far more rare. But VCs are discounted for a reason and the SkyD is probably selling at a premium. Still, I love the VC. If I find a great deal, I might just pull the trigger on the VC.

I prefer the Sky Dweller but I would say go for a blue dial 116509 instead. That is a truly stunning piece.

Yes the VC comes with bracelet and 2 more straps that you can instantly swap. One leather one plastic.

If the comparison is Daytona then the price will be a huge difference. The advantage of the VC is that I can get that at almost the same price as the Sky Dweller, which when both are new they are like $15k apart

Do you wear it casually or only special occasion? I have not see a stainless steel sky dweller in person so I can't tell how flashy it is in normal life. I felt it's a bit more formal than I wanted.

If by 'close' you mean not paying markup on the SkyD (msrp $14.4k).... VC chrono all the way. In-house movement, amazing fit and finish, that gorgeous geneva seal, excellent bracelet, etc. You won't find a nicer divers chrono at that price point.
Personally, I love both but believe that VC is making a comeback with their new movement and the bargains won't last long. |

Sky Dweller. I had a VC Overseas non chrono. I liked it except for the notched bezel, which collected dirt and dust. Also the flat parts on the top part of the case got smudged a lot and looked discolored.

I'd go SkyD. For some reason that date window on the VC runs me the wrong way. Kills the dial imo.

no wrong choices here. I would love to have both. Recently, I've become a huge VC overseas fan. If I had to choose, that's what I would go with. This is subject to change at any given moment.

It depends a little on what you have in your collection already. If you already have a Rolex or like many people here, multiple Rolexes, and don’t already have a chronograph in the collection I would go with the Overseas. Vacheron Yes one of the holy Trinity and an amazing manufacturer. I’d prefer a Sub, GMT or Daytona in the Rolex line.
On the other hand the sky dweller is also amazing watch and looks great with an annual calendar complication. No bad decisions here good luck Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Good, quick strap change is genius on this too. The blue is def the best colour of all and one of the best blues around I agree., deep and rich. I also like the subdials are the same size on this 3 gen. In UK it's hard to get any discount despite the poor resale so a no go here, but if you can get 25% plus off then very appealing.

As far as the VC overseas, I think the previous generation (2nd) was nicer than the current. The big date feature on the last version looks far nicer to me than the 4:30 date window. Also, I don’t like the way the new bracelet and strap connects. It seems like a flimsy connection.
