Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight - bezel thoughts

I'll start off by saying I love the Fifty-Eight -- it was my favorite watch from Baselworld this year. The original Black Bay was an incredible watch but a tad too large IMO, so I think the Fifty-Eight might be just perfect (dependent on seeing it in person, of course).

With that said, I'm don't think I'm a fan of the gold font on the bezel. I really like the gilt dial and the associated vintage look, but the gold bezel feels like it's just too much of a good thing. I would prefer the more traditional silver/aluminum bezel look.

Does anyone else feel similarly? Here are pictures of the Fifty Eight and a Tudor 7924 for comparison.

I agree with everything you said wholeheartedly! Actually I could do without gilt on the dial as well. As it is I can’t go for it because it’s practically a two tone watch!

Completely agree with you here, particularly the bold portion. I can't wait to try on one in person, but as much as I like the new dimensions, think I might have to wait a year or two for Tudor to potentially release a Fifty-Eight equivalent of the Black Bay Blue (or other variant with a silver dial/bezel).

I rather like the gold bezel. Gives the watch a unified, coherent appearance to the front of the watch and makes a nice contrast to the big SS winder and the lugs. Cant wait to see one in the flesh - I'm probably buying it.

I preferred white on the bezel and dial which is one of the main reasons I went with the Black Bay blue over the red or black.

I like it and it helps keep some distinction from the 41mm.

I always liked the gilt dial in theory, but when it came to choosing one for my wrist, the Black Bay blue won out easily, partly because it didn’t have a gilt dial. I agree with you.

I like the uniqueness but I also would like a silver font bezel too.... assuming they come out with say burgundy and silver font bezels in the future how possible is it to get ahold of an insert to make a switch yoursef?

Same here. It's basically the only thing keeping me from buying one as soon as they're released.

I love my BBN ETA, but I think that the 58 also looks great.

58 on the radar. will wait & see what they do with this reference in the next few years. NF & Ranger are the only models that tudor haven't touched since release-- so assuming we will get some dial/bezel options by 2020. '58 seems ripe for blue on blue

Totally agree about the gold / gilt.... and not sure about the snowflake hands either. Having said that I would still probably buy one.....or hold out for the inevitable variations. Can anybody see Tudor returning to Mercedes style hands? But the size and price point are perfect for me.....

Just wait it out a few more years.

Initial references are always just a bit "off" before the floodgates open. They'll be a red, blue, chrome, dark, chrono, and two-tone available in no-time!

Love the 58, still hate the mismatched PIP color on Tudor's gilt watches (cream vs white)

I love it too and believe watches are getting too big!

However I agree about the gold on the bezel. Wish they kept it the same as the current BB

I like it but it's just too small for me. Then again am very tempted with S&G on strap
