Do the Diamonds look right?

My mom lost her rolex and bought this Rolex from a non AD jewelry store. The diamonds looks different than other similar models I see online. Do they look right?

Sorry here is the picture:

Nothing looks real there to me. I could be wrong though.

Dial is certainly not original, date wheel isn't right. What year is the watch meant to be? Need more pictures.

Looks like an acrylic glass model with polished shoulders to make it appear more modern and a style of diamond setting in the dial which was not introduced until much later. I would also believe those diamonds not to be of original Rolex fitting.

I'm a friend of the OP. Watch is supposed to be from 1987, but we're not sure. It was purchased before we could really investigate whether it looked good or not. Not sure if it can be returned, but we're going to find out today.

I was suspicious and you guys are confirming my fears. Will check with this store today. My mom says they have a warranty so hopefully they are willing to work with us.

And yes, Dafuture is my close friend.

I have the watch in my possession and was able to take more photos. It looks okay in person but I really don't know enough to say. Does anyone have additional input with these new pictures?

Ok so I have the appraisal in hand and they actually disclosed the dial was custom and my mom didn't really understand, I'm not sure what to do now. My mom I think wants to keep the watch but she didn't understand that this is a bad thing. I feel badly.

It's not necessarily a bad purchase if your mom likes it.

If your mom likes the watch and wants to keep it, there's no problem here. I'm guessing she's not looking to flip it to make a buck or two, so let her be happy with it.

She paid 3 grand for it, there is one on TRF for 2,200 (albeits needs a service) with the original dial. She massively overpaid and they appraised it for $4,500. I found one on Bob's for $3,900 so she could get a real one. Shouldn't we try and beg they return it?

I can't answer this for you. If my mom wanted the watch, next . . . .

A grand or two is not worth ruining mom's watch, imo.

I would rather return this watch and buy the watch for $3,900 which doesn't have all the non rolex stuff on it... This is a real rolex watch but it a "frakenwatch" which she didn't understand.

The store wanted to replace the dial with an original Rolex dial. I said no and asked them to return it and they agreed.

Good. What a tricky situation helping your mom through this. Well done.

Would have been more acceptable if it had been priced accordingly... I hope they're a mom and pop outfit who didn't know either, rather than a dealer intentionally taking advantage. Need to maintain some faith in human nature.

It's a minefield out there. Easy to say after the fact, but buy the seller...

They wrote down in their appraisal that the dial was custom but my mom had no idea. They were willing to return the watch (after I argued) and they felt like they disclosed it. My Mom wasn't aware though and my aunt (who was the one physical there who bought the watch) may have been I'm not sure. They didn't feel like they were intentionally taking advantage but I feel like they should've been more clear that the dial was aftermarket.

As a follow up:
We went to a different store today and bought one with what I believe to be an authentic dial. It has diamonds on the bezel too which were put on aftermarket. They are offering to replace it with a fluted bezel from rolex but my mom might not care about the bezel diamonds being custom. The Dial of the watch being original to rolex is a lot more important to me I don't think having aftermarket bezel diamond is a big deal and it looks better in person than this picture. Here is the new watch, thoughts? https://imgur.com/gallery/6dd1Sp7

What makes you think that new one is legit? The hands seem way too short and the diamond settings don't look anything like what I'm used to seeing in actual Rolex dials. Lume dots are awful also. The dial may be authentic Rolex, but is has been reworked to add the diamonds IMO.

Me and Dafuture examined it. It also was appraised as having an original dial versus the other one which wasn't.

I'm just basing it off of picture from googling the reference number. The shortness of the hands seem to match up to me but I could be wrong so I came here to check.
For example it seems to me these hand much up to what I see from google. We have a 30 day return policy the watch was bought from TRF member: collectorsbuysell (Eddie) at his store

https://www.google.com/search?q=role...DIJv-DvFf-5nM:

https://www.bobswatches.com/ladies-r...mond-dial.html

I'm going to try and get a better picture of the watch. The diamond settings to me on the dial look a lot more accurate but its hard to see with the picture, we are aware of the diamonds on the bezel

Yes I will take better pictures, but I can't at the moment. It's from 1994.
