Vulture Gray Dealers....

So as many of you know now, I made an INCOMING thread for my brand new blue dial 15400 yesterday. I’m not going to sell this under any condition, but I found this pretty interesting (and disappointing?) and wanted to share with the group. Since posting my blue dial incoming thread, I’ve received THREE private messages from gray dealers who I will leave unnamed that made offers to buy it from me. The offers ranged from 27 to 29k. Unreal. The grays are vultures!

Just so I understand, you’re not happy that someone made you an offer to buy something you own?

That’s not the point. Point is the grays saw an opportunity and moved in for the kill! It’s good to know the option is always there, but man, it was a bit shocking.

The 15400 Blue is listed as low as $28500 on chrono24 and there is one on TRF for $29000. So these grey market dealers are offering you to buy at grey market "retail" prices? Please post or pm me their names so I know whom to sell my watches to

Where did you buy your new blue 15400 if not from a grey?

I was unaware that AP still made 154000 I thought that this was replaced by the 155000? Anyway to command prices of 27K/29K by the Grey market what will those who want to buy pay is it 30K and above!! Ludicrous

They are just making a living, the good times are here for them so they need to live it up while they can.

Calling them vultures and going in for the kill is a bit extreme. Try going to an AD that sells pre owned and see what they offer you. It will be a lot lower.

They are probably still sitting on a lot of 15400's that they held back to create artificial scarcity.

You specifically said in your incoming thread you were considering trading it already towards a full gold bracelet AP. Dealers see this as a sign you might be looking to make a deal. I assume those numbers are trade figures and not cash offers. If someone offered you 29k cash you might as well take it that’s full blown retail asking.

This anti-capitalist theme on the internet is troubling. America used to be the home of free markets. Now not so much. Personally, I would welcome offers from greys as it would give me an idea of the value of my watch.

Dude, you hinted at trading in your very own incoming thread. How is offering you 10k above retail being a vulture?

Vultures feed on scraps. They offered you a premium for your watch. Don't see the problem here to be honest.

You state all of this in your incoming thread, yet you state the people who contacted you are vultures? What am I missing?

The rose gold bracelet for the 15300 is $19k, so that would put me about $40k in the hole for the 15300 when I’d rather drop that cash on a 15400OR. I may sell the 15300 on croc strap and buy a 15400OR on croc strap for a few thousand more then eventually add the rose gold bracelet which I could justify on a 15400OR but not 15300OR. I’ve clearly been thinking hard about this lol. I just listed my 15300OR on chrono24 so hopefully it sells.

What an odd thing to post. I can tell you that for a blue 15400 you'll get circa $20K for a straight sell. As the community has said anything north of that is for a trade. I'm looking forward to when this madness ends and watches become luxury items again not investments and a way to make money.

I find those offer values to be hard to believe unless the "grays" were part of a band of folk who think they can flip watches to make money rapidly and really do not know the market.
I doubt DavidSW or any of the more established resellers would offer you 27-29 for your watch even if still sealed in the hard plastic box direct from factory.
