Day jumper colliding with date wheel - cal. 3035

Today I tried setting the date on my 16014 when the hour hand was at around 10pm. I was always under the impression that I can change the date at any time without causing damage (although it may wear the date disc/wheel) but this time I felt resistance in the date position and refused to force it further.

After a bit of looking I realised that it is probably the day jumper colliding with the date wheel (see picture). By applying more force, does it simply push the jumper or would that do damage to the watch?

Thanks for any help :)

IF that is a photo of your watch, one problem could be that the teeth on your date wheel are worn, and should be replaced in the course of service. This could cause it to hang up when advancing.
