Selling to Takuya

Thinking of selling to them. I’ve bought from them and it was good but I’m used to buying and selling sports cars where the money is wired before car is released. Here it is the opposite. They get the watch; get to evaluate it and then pay. Anyone with good or bad experience SELLING to them? Thanks

Beat me to the same response. Takuya is as honest as all get-out, one of the most respected dealers there is.

I have dealt with him before and would again at any time.

I too have been flummoxed at times with how watch dealers operate when buying. This whole concept of sending your watch before receiving full payment is however common across the industry. It probably stems from watches having enclosed movements that can rarely be photographed by the average seller (no case back removal tool). The dealer needs to verify its all kosher, which seems logical. On one occasion I sold a Exp II to a dealer (not this one) and when the watch arrived he tried to lowball me on some bs scratch he said wasn’t visible in my photos (it was), so I just told him to send the watch back to me. 1h later he said “check your account” and he’d wired the money…go figure.

I know the general feeling - when I sold race cars, haulers and trailers I always had the funds cleared before doing the transfer.

It took some re-adjustment with watches. I’ve dealt with Takuya and he is solid - also dealt with others.

Here is what you need to do to set your own expectations. Get some local quotes in person. Or learn the market from reviewing sales data here, eBay and Chrono24. Then, understand a dealer need to make a reasonable profit - could be anywhere from 10% to 20%. So you’re not going to see a 100% valuation. Also, know your watch condition very well. A scratch on an hour hand, or a ceramic bezel will affect its value.

That’s where disagreements crop up.

Much success - I just moved a watch and even my discerning eye didn’t catch a small scratch - so we negotiated and I came down on the ask big price. Just be ready to assess the deal realistically and you should be happy.
