my MF 5513... which gets close to zero wrist time. It has been said on this thread that submariners shouldn't have a date function but unfortunately I can't function without a date function and I do love a nice sub so I wear a 1680 most of the time..

The 5512/5513 does indeed have a date function .... via the bezel insert. Just set the bezel pearl/pointer each morning to the minute-track number of the date. Here's my 5512 I wore yesterday set to the date, the 9th!

Sadly, as much as I'd like to find a matte dial, I've been looking at gloss just as closely. It's pushing me right back towards a 14060M and letting the 5513 market enjoy the ride.
Unfortunately, it is the with the 14060 only from a lower level

Agree with your observation

Hilarious and a great idea.

First I've heard of it.

That's actually a good idea, however my OCD self will set the bezel for the date, only to later on see the bezel pearl out of line, placing it back to 12 forgetting I set it for the date. Then out comes the iphone to confirm the date

Hmmmm .... I have nutty OCD too, but if I follow this philosophy, I'd never be able to use the bezel for anything. My Sub bezel pearl is rarely at 12 because I use it for parking meters, timing spaghetti, the kids' time-outs, and the date!
