Found a Rolex....

Hi Guys,

I found this old watch when clearing out my father's draws. It works fine but I believe it must be a manual wind.

Has some numbers on the side 6234 and 530410.

Can anyone shed some light on manufacture date. Also, is it worth anything?

Thanks

Jonathan

Looks very new. couple of UK members can tell you where to take it for authentication. If it checks out worth several thousand pounds. M

If you do a google search you'll find what people are asking for similar watches - a little more than several thousand pounds. That's if everything checks out, of course.

Whoa!
Words of advice:
keep it.
If you get it serviced ONLY do a movement service, leave everything else original.

If it is authentic, it is a keeper. My guesstimate, if authentic, is a 1958 pre- Daytona. I believe it is a manual wind. Estimate in the 23-30k range.

But I will defer to the real experts here to chime in on it.

Welcome. Post some clearer pics if you can. I don't believe there should be any numbers on the side of a 6234. If it's legit, congrats on the find. It seems to be in great shape

Be careful. If all checks out on it, it is an expensive piece and I'm sure some people will try to low ball you...

Have a look here - same Case No 530410 at this from 2010: https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/17800/lot/165/

I thought Case No. were S/N. I guess I was mistaken, since OP´s watch and the one linked here have equal case numbers.

Okay. That's very interesting. I took it to my local jeweler who got a microscope out and offered me £1200 for it. He said it was authentic but not collectable as they were ten a penny.
Will post some more pics tomorrow when I've got my laptop rather than phone.

I have to say, I don't understand why the Bonham one, that was worn less than a handful of times by someone famous, according to the description, has no lume at all, while the rest of the dial looks new. Did they not lume some of them originally? Was the dial reprinted or something? Just wondering...

Are you sure that it has the case number 530410?

I mean really really sure.

I've got a view on this but I'm loathe to say anything until you can clarify.

You must have a decent set of tools there.

Can you post a pic of the case no?

I'd stay away from your local jeweler. If he authenticated it, and then offered you that, he's not to be trusted

Yes - if authentic, your watchmaker mugs old ladies for their Rosary beads, then steals their purse dogs.

If authentic, and be very careful on this, you have hit a good strike of gold. But be very cautious. Find a quality vintage expert in your area to take a good look.

If you click on the first link, it goes to a photo bucket account with more pictures.

I'm an amateur, but that case looks too good to be that old. Especially after seeing the other pictures.

WOW. What a find (if everything checks out). As others have said...outside of having a reputable jeweler check it out, keep it and do not get anything changed/serviced on it. Very valuable watch and memorable piece considering it was your father's. But once again, if everything checks out. GOOD LUCK, look forward to seeing what transpires.
