My Rolex Evolution

Friends,

After much thought, I have decided to modify my three piece collection consisting of a white dial ceramic SS Daytona, Oyster BLNR, and maxi sub date. I will release the latter two, add cash, and get a new yellow gold, white dial DD40 with Roman numerals.

I figure White ceramic D500 and YG DD40 will be very powerful combo. Will probably add an omega speedmaster as my true tool watch and maybe a yellow OP41 for fun.

Excited to have first PM.

Great plan, I’m all about consolidation! However, are you sure two white dials is the way to go? You’ll need that Speedmaster for your black dial needs.

The DD40 is amazing but I would try to find a way to keep your BLNR

Anyone of the opinion that it would be better to hold these steel then just add a DD40 later?

Depends on how frequently you’re wearing them. If they are just sitting in the box, it’s time to move them for something you’ll enjoy. If you wear them regularly, wait and add because you’re going to miss them.

Yes, always add never subtract unless you don’t love something.

I'd keep all and add the day date 40. Better to have different options to wear and rotate.

won't go wrong for DD, however keep the BLNR or Sub as a daily if possible, and you would have the perfect 3.

If you don't need the money from the latter two to finance the DD, I don't think you could go wrong holding on to all of them. Don't let anyone tell you to sell a watch just because you don't wear it. Those two watches are much more "everyday casual" so you might get the DD and find that you like them filling that niche every so often. Or, you may just prefer to lose one/both and get something down level like the Speedmaster. Either way, if you live it for a while first, you'll likely come to the conclusion naturally.

That said, if you need the cash, I certainly don't disagree with your original logic on paper, either.

I'd add if you got the SS at retail price - you would be safe if you ever needed / wanted to unload.

Well most always say keep adding / never sell but that is not the way to go IMHO if you want to keep a small collection. I have gone as high as 8 watches (Rolex, Omega and Zenith) and am in the process of downsizing (currently at 7) as now think less is more!

Nice three piece collection. DD40 , Ceramic Daytona, and a speedy as tool watch if you will. Only suggestion I might make is since you already have the Daytona as a chronograph, why not get a steel diver of some type as the tool watch.

Consolidation takes so much thought and planning,
whereas adding to the collection just takes money.

Keep the Daytona and BLNR, and add the DD. That’s what I’d do...

That would be a nice idea but I’d need a diver in my collection

This is good advice, I have watches that have stayed unworn for over a year, does it mean I don’t love them? No, probably love them even more after not wearing them for so long. I do sometimes battle with myself about whether I should sell some or not though. If an opportunity to make some money came up and needed funding this is the first place I would go to raise some extra capital.

Good luck on the dd40 you’ll love it!
