Is it bad that I'm building my collection super quick?
suddenly got the watch bug.
buying a watch every few days to build my perfect collection. all grey. bought a batman last wednesday just bought a hulk yesterday. now looking at ceramic daytona or pepsi to order next (prob next week). curious to know whether some on here would think this is the wrong way to go about building a collection. i bet some people would say part of the enjoyment is taking your time and building slowly. i just hate wanting something and thinking/researching about it therefore taking my time away from more important things. so my philosophy is that if i can afford it, then buy it and get on with something more constructive |

i dont really see the fun in just buying every hyped SS model within a few weeks but to each their own...there are a lot of great models out there and you shouldn't limit yourself to the perfect instagram collection

If you can afford it, good for you.
Just make sure if you go the vintage route, that you pay someone else to do the research for you - they aren't as 'fire and forget' as modern rolex can be :) |

As long you like what you’re buying and you can afford it more power to you. Besides, all of the references that you bought are highly desirable and if you got sick of them you could easily get rid of them and likely turn a profit.

Sounds like you are buying the hype rather than taking the time to discover what suits your personality. So, you risk people thinking your collection lacks individuality and instead you care more about the perception of others rather than have an intrinsic style and confidence. Just my 2c, sorry it comes across as negative. The time pieces you purchased are iconic though and you will surely enjoy them.

Easy come...
I don’t know how you can possibly appreciate and enjoy them. |

dont even have social media so its not about showing off the collection.
as someone said they are all iconic pieces and i think they should absolutely be a part of an awesome collection (if you can afford them). so if i "took my time" i would simply be paying more for them 5 years from now. at the end of the day, i just think whats the point in delaying and paying more if i know i want them in my collection |

The hot watches are popular for a reason, they are fantastic looking watches. If you can grab them why not, better than money in the bank.

Not wrong at all.... although you'll be craving more and more each time you think you're done.

Why not? If you have the money then go for it! Gives you something different to wear everyday or every few days. As someone posted here though, don't just go for grail/ hype models. Buy the ones you really like also.

they are watches that i think look really nice. already have an OP so date just is too similar for my liking to jump on right now. i would LOVE to have the blue arabic platinum day date but thats just not possible. was exclusive to MENA region and is now priced around $65k with greys. thats the holy grail for me. i can see why it looks like im just buying into the insta hype, but its not really that. just iconic lovely pieces that i think why delay |

If you can afford it and it makes you happy, then do it!
My only advice is that you may want to start looking at PM pieces.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Just get the Grails first and the "must haves" like a sub and a moonwatch, then Relax or try to ;-)

But if it's just a case of you can afford them but still notice the purchase price (which the 65k DD not being possible implies) then I would say slow down and try and appreciate them one at a time, enjoy the thrill of the chase. |

Imcarvee is right. There's such a great feeling of working hard for something and getting it.
Personally for me re PM models, I'll just spend the money on an AP or PP. But to each their own. That's part of the beauty of watch collecting! |

ive got some "must haves" (in my opinion) already like man on the moon and the navitimer. i know some people here look down on breitling but the old style navitimers are perfect in my eyes. gold wings logo, black and white dial, brown leather strap...beautiful |

Yes it’s too quick. You’re meant to collect over a lifetime. That said, you will find your tastes will change and you will offload at least some of these I believe in the future and that’s ok too. All part of the journey.

I don't think any decent watch enthusiast will look down on Breitling fliegers bro. Most in this forum know the history and heritage of brands. I post my Seikos here unabashedly as I know I'm in the company of real Watch Enthusiasts who know what an SKX is.

If I had the money to buy all hot pieces at greys then I would do the AD approach, buy a couple PMs then acquire all the SS hard to get pieces bit by bit. That's just me though. I feel I would appreciate the watch more and the AD giving me the opportunity to buy the SS models because they would know my loyalty and passion for the brand.
Also, although I do like most of all Rolex's lineup, doesn't mean I want to own them all either. To each their own. Happy for the OP for being able to get what he wants, when he wants |
