Omega Service Centers??????

One of the things I like reading about Rolex is that after years of abuse/wear you can send it back to a service center and for about $500 you get a fixed up "shiny new" watch.

How does this work with Omega. Let's say I buy a Seamaster for my daily beater. If I send it back to Omega for service, what can I expect? I'm still getting a Rolex, I'm just curious about what Omega does as their watches aren't cheap either. (well a little).

But will they make it shiny and new like Rolex does?

That is what I'm wondering. I like the idea of having the watch forever, wearing it a lot and having it fixed to brand new status every decade or so.

My cousin has a couple of Omegas and there's a service center in downtown Toronto. It comes back like new.

Another situation was his late father's Omega Seamaster on beads of rice. They restored the watch to new again - the service center in Toronto couldn't do it so it was sent back to Switzerland. The only issue was that they no longer manufacture the crown for it (early 60's) so they have to use another crown similar from another Seamaster model.

I have always wanted to know this as well. Since I own a brand new ti smp, wonder if they'll be able to get it back as new years later when it's all scratched up on a titanium model.

There is talk in one of the watch fora (watchuseek.com/archive) that Rolex won't service Rolex old/vintage watches, 20 to 30 years old to be exact. On the other hand, Omega is known to service Omega vintage watches. Luckily, my Rolex watches have not been sent to RSC for service--as they are considerably young in age.

Many moons ago, I had to take my Old Navitimer to a Breitling AD, due to a bent/ruined clasp inflicted by an inexperienced person at a mom and pop watch store. The watch came back as like new, with refinished bracelet and cleaned crystal. That is one of the luxuries of owning a fine Swiss watch.

I am positive that the same thing is true with Omega service, the watch when sent in for service will come back as LIKE NEW. Have no fear in buying an Omega.

Cheers.
