New lenses and first Concert photographs
So a good friend of mine held his first concert with the new band this saturday, so it was a great excuse for me to get some new lenses and try photographing something else besides watches...
I got the Nikon 50mm F1,4 and the Tamron 28-75mm F2,8. I haven`t cleared the pictures with the band yet, so I wont post pictures that show their faces, wich unfortunately is just about all of them I`ll make sure to post them when they clear if you guys are interested. I wore my Explorer all thrue the concert and it blended in just perfect a real stealth Rolex. It was a very nice crowd Some hard riffs Not that often you see the peace sign on a heavy metal concert |

Well after some sorting, this is what came out in the end. For my first concert shoot and being a complete moron at this, some actually turned out ok I think I sure learned alot that`s for sure and in the end i guess that`s what counts.
I would love to get some feedback and tips on these. Thanks -Ram |

For a first attempt, you have done a great job. If I was to be very picky, about the only observation I'd make would be to use the rule of thirds on some of the pictures. That's putting the main object 1/3rd of the way in the picture but I'm sure you know that.

Wow. They are fantastic.
Rule of thirds? I thought that only applied to burgers & beer?

Ramban, the shots are great.
What model of Nikon are you using? Have you tried the 28mm to 200mm Nikkor zoom. Very nice lens. |

Sorry for the late answer I use the Nikon D90. Havent tried the 28-200 but I`m thinking of buying the Nikkor 70-300 wich have gotten some great reviews. On a sidenote all these pictures are taken without flash, hense the high iso and noise. the room was really badly lit. |

You did some good work there.
Black and white shots are edgy and they came out well. I would like to see more color shots since that's where you can see how well you did. But I agree with AJ on the 1/3 rule. You don't want your subject to be dead center unless it's a portrait. I would also recommend trying to keep the focus point on the eyes. For concert shots especially in a club, you have to time yourself with the lighting. If you plan to do more concert photography, I recommend trying out the 85mm f/1.4 and the 70-200mm f/2.8 VR. The 70-200mm gives you a lot of room to work with if you can't get close and the VR gives you an extra stop. |

Thank you for the tips, Vu!
I would love to do some more concert photos in the future, learned alot from this one and all of your tips will make the next one better I`m sure I did feel however that F2,8 didn`t let through enough light though, or is that me not being able to time it right? I had to use very high iso when using my Tamron 28-75 F2.8. to get some decent shutter times or else it just turned out blurry or too dark. |
