The real story behind ADs lists!!!

I was traveling and stopped by an AD that I bought my BLNR from to chat and see what’s in stock!

I had the following conversation with the store manager;

My first question was: “hey have you guys received any ss Daytona’s or skyD this year” ?
Manager: I’m getting sick of all the DJs I’m receiving, haven’t received a single professional watch since I sold you that BLNR

Me: so did I move at all of that Daytona list?
Manager: no you’re still number 12 or so which might be 2 years

I started looking at his PM stock and expressed interest in his WG skyD, but was hesitant

That’s when he said..... “give me a minute

He went inside and came out with a box. Opened it and YES it was a black dial ss Daytona!!!!
I really want a white one!
He said if you make a WG or TT skydweller, the Daytona will be yours!!!!

My jaw literally dropped to the floor and I was speechless how he do that!!

I have been seriously considering a TT skyD but wanted a white dial Daytona!

I asked him to let me think about it till Monday. He agreed and put both watches reserved for me till Monday!

I left in a shock and disgust of how those rascals play the game of “lists” and how the list disappears all of a sudden and they rudely demand a “package” deal to sell those hot items

I’m convinced that most ADs have those watches in their vault but they will release them for those who move a slow mover with it!!!
I got to put on a daytona on my wrist for the first time and tried on the TT skyD which I really liked!!

Ever AD I visit in SoCal has mountains of Datejusts in every variety.

Perhaps Rolex knows of all the unsold Datejusts and their solution is to hold back SS sports models until the Datejusts are sold. It must be hard for ADs to have the same lot of Datejusts in the case year after year.

It’s hard to blame them for “bundling.” The salesmen’s livelihoods depend on sales.

AD’s do it because they can, they can because people allow it.

Supply and demand, some can pay without concern, others pay to look like those who have no concern. The remaining choose not to play the game.

Since the beginning of time, and until the end of time, humans are the same.

I can see why they might do that, but if you're shocked and disgusted by their approach, why even consider giving in to it?

Similar thing happened with my friend regarding Hulk.. he has a deposit with local AD (Store Owner)for a Daytona and a Skydweller... since he hasn’t had any progress in 8 months he wanted to consider his options while he was walking maybe thinking about getting a Panerai but decided against it and was leaving when he asked about the Hulk first he got the typical no and then while he was leaving he comes back saying let me check the vault and comes back saying he was actually holding this for his brother for 5 months but Rolex doesn’t want AD owner getting the watch and it has to be registered with all the info so if he wants he can have it... now my friend was never into Hulk but decided to get it due to the market demand on these... I was shocked because I was wanting one for a while and had him ask this AD Several time thru my friend in the last 6 month and the answer was none Available.. but then timing was messed up as I ordered a YM II a week before that..... what seemed crazy to me was my friend between himself and his buddies has reffered I believe 7 rolexes this Year to this AD.. if he would’ve made this available instead of sitting on it I would’ve picked it up..

I will most likely buy them and trade the Daytona for a white dial or sell it for the price of a white dial!

There’s a part in me that wants to keep it though. I will buy it and see!

I don't think this is #fakenews, it's #oldnews

Those of us that don't have a "relationship" with an AD just haven't spent enough money there!

Can they do that though?

Any public business should be equal opportunity and to my knowledge they can’t “force” you to buy that they want so you can get what you want

The most they can do is refuse your business but again that has to be displayed as a right! I’m not expert on laws and regulations governing sales but it’s pretty common sense I think!

Actually that black Daytona is fabulous. The SkyDweller is a grail for me, but both at once would be beyond my means. It’s a sick trick but if you can really afford it (and aren’t completely fixed on the white dial Daytona) do you want to stand on principal. I’d be too weak to do so in your place! Let us know what you do!

ADs do it because they can. When I was shopping for a Plat DD for a family member, I used that to my advantage to get a SS Daytona. A few ADs I chatted with told me I would get a "priority" spot on the list, but I wouldn't take being placed "up" on the list for an answer. No one was able to make one appear right away. Eventually, I worked out a deal with an AD that I would take both when the next white dialed one showed up, and sure enough, one came in like a week later.

That's actually a pretty decent package deal - a TT SkyDweller for a SS Daytona. You could probably buy the TT SkyD and flip it with only a small loss, and voila you have a SS Daytona with only a tiny "premium" (i.e. the loss on the sale of the SkyD.)

That’s extremely sad to me that some AD’s require you to purchase other watches to get your hands on a Daytona or be a VIP. What about the people who save up for years, wanting to buy a watch and find out that they either can’t get one because they haven’t bought a half dozen other models or aren’t able to spend an additional $30k on a precious metal package deal. I guess for most the Daytona isn’t usually the first model in their collection.

That's call "bundling". AD cannot officially charge customer higher than msrp so they ask you to buy a non-popular expensive watch and get a popular watch. I know all along waitlists are pure BS so I never see the logic of getting on one. Exception being if you know the AD really well and trust them.

Looking forward to it, if it happens. Some of these AD “games” are souring the hobby.

Bundling seems like a horrible practice IMHO. Withholding a product from a buyer seems shady and borderline illegal right?

My AD showed me a white Daytona c, SS SkyDweller, and LVc when he sold me a BLNR. He said they were “sold,” but they may become available if I was interested in a DateJust or something... I actually want a DJ41, but don’t wanna drop $20k at once after spending $9k on the BLNR.

A wise man once said... “it is what it is.”

It’s all a game. Although I actually feel bad for AD’s. They have absolutely no inventory to sell. The models they’re forced to carry don’t sell well enough. They have a plethora of anger customers willing to dish out their hard earned money and the AD’s just can’t get them what they want. They’re basically forced into these games by Rolex. It’s borderline sad.
