Contemplating 1st Omega Watch
While I've always loved watches I am now in the position to start acquiring more watches. I started years ago(1972) with a Seiko automatic which I still wear from time to time. I recently purchased a Cartier MC tank chrono and a Heuer Autavia. So i had my mind set on a Rolex Sub. However since they are nearly impossible to obtain new I am looking at the new 300 in blue and also the previous model. Been going back and forth but now think it should be the newer model. I am able to obtain one at 15% off msrp. I can wait for the sub and can buy both this and a Moonwatch (which is also on my list)for about the same $. Got the bug. What do you think?

The great thing is you have choices and there are no wrong choices here. With that said, if you truly desire the sub then be patience or buy gentle used from one of the trusted sellers here. If not the seamaster blue is a beautiful piece and the speedy is just class/iconic! Best of luck my friend!

It's nice to be in the position to buy yourself some nice watches. I don't think you will go wrong with any of the models you mention. Have fun!

Think about if you'd rather have the Submariner or the Seamaster. Regardless, get on the waitlist at some dealers for the Submariner and get the Moonwatch in the meantime. After living with the Moonwatch for a while, think about if you want to add the Submariner or the Seamaster.

The sum of the Seamaster and Speedmaster is greater than the Submariner to me. Other will not agree but you understand the Rolex market right now and I would not buy high. If you do then any move going forward for trading or flipping will be based on those numbers. Some times we just have to do it. If that is you then go buy the Rolex and enjoy it.

I recently picked up a gently preowned Omega Seamaster from DavidSw and couldn’t be happier, the watch is simply an eye catcher for me and next on my list is a Planet Ocean
I to would love to own a sub but in the meantime this one from David will be fine

I’d pick a Seamaster 300 over a sub any day (in fact I did!) so a 300 + speedy is a total no brainer! Do it

I did the exact same thing. Guys at the Omega Boutique are beyond helpful and just a pleasure to do business with. Beyond frustrating trying to give Rolex my money only to be told the wait is indefinite. I moved my 114060 and replaced with these two. No regrets whatsoever... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I agree with many here. SM 300 over a Sub. Throw in a Speedy? Not even worth thinking about, just do it!

I get the allure of Rolex but Rolex isn’t the same today as it was even 2-3 years back. I would buy the Omega anyway as the Rolex buyer has taken on a new face far from the enthusiast. As much as I like my Rolex watches, I am starting to detest what Rolex is doing and what they have migrated to. After 30 years of ownership, the brand feels stale and rubbing me the wrong way. Rolex’s priorities are not mine.
The Sub has a outdated movement and way way way over rated in the current market. For some reason we all thought the Sub would get a updated movement like the GMT the last 3 years but nothing yet. A 48hr power reserve and no rotor bearings is crazy in todays luxury watches. I think it would be crazy to buy a Sub (even at msrp) knowing it has the old movement and the new movement has to come soon. Omega is doing better movements and better build materials at a real world price point for a luxury sports watch. |

If I were OP, I'd buy just one watch now (the Speedmaster, so it's not redundant with a future Sub), and keep some cash in prevision for the upcoming year. |

Spend time with the Seamaster at ADs and figure out if you love it. If you want to go for it just because you can’t get the Sub, don’t do it. Instead figure out a way to get a Sub. But if you’re choosing the Seamaster because you really love the watch, then go for it.

Omega is great and I really enjoy mine but if you really do want a Submariner then Omega or no other brand will scratch the itch. |
