Fs: Victorinox swiss army platinum legacy power reserve de marche platine 251086 rare

At 95% Pure Platinum, one of the rarest precious metals on earth, this exceedingly rare Victorinox Swiss Army Legacy Reserve de Marche Platine watch has a very wearable 43mm solid Platinum case with beautiful black accents, Automatic Caliber Valgranges A07.161 movement, power reserve indicator, date, 46 hour power reserve, is water resistant to 100M, sapphire crystal with three specialized anti-glare coatings, oversized exhibition case back, detailed skeletonized dial with PVD finish, all on a beautiful suede leather strap with tang buckle. The model number is 251086or V.251086. Original list price was $19,500 and production was limited to 60 made worldwide EVER! You’ll never see another hit the open market as I have found from research the 60 manufactured were primarily reserved for VSA Executives, with only a handful hitting the open market.

The timepiece is in outstanding condition with only a miniscule sign of wear. The case sides have no scratches. The inserts on the case, as well as the bezel, are in great condition. The case with movement weighs about 160 grams, the majority of which is comprised of precious metal. By the way, check the prices of platinum and the watches precious alone will more than pay for itself over time given appreciation!

The crystal has no chips or scratches and the anti-reflective coating is perfect. Both the leather band and original rubber strap are in like new condition with no marks and the buckle has no scratches. It is in fantastic shape and you will be the only one with this watch anywhere as I have only ever seen one other comparable listing years ago and it was unfortunately not well cared for.

As to the history of this white unicorn, every now and then a brand does something unexpected by reaching far outside of their comfort zone to create a product that is unlike anything they made before or since. This resulted in the enigma that became the Legacy Reserve de Marche Platine by Victorinox in 2006 and that mystique continues until today for avid collectors. By the way, in plain English that means Legacy Power Reserve in platinum.

It is by far the rarest Swiss Army watch ever made, but not just in terms of limited numbers of just 60 produced. Instead, rarity in terms of price, exclusivity and precious materials. The platinum is roughly 270% denser than steel and 160% denser than gold. That means two similarly sized watch cases rendered in those different metals will weigh different amounts and certainly have varying costs associated with the precious metal content. Platinum costs about $900 per ounce today. The use of platinum for the case was probably the leading factor in its stratospheric price tag of $19,500 back in 2006.

But, the platinum costs alone do not tell the whole story, and honestly neither is Swiss Army. There are minuscule amounts of information about this watch on the Internet… and any references to the model all say the same thing. Here is a synopsis:

o The 43mm case is made of platinum
o The lugs, bezel and crown guards are black rubber to protect this investment
o It comes with a black rubber strap and a brown leather strap
o There is a significant amount of decoration on the custom Valgranges A07 movement
o It has a blued 46-hour power reserve indicator
o It has an anti-reflective triple coated sapphire crystal and oversized case back

The dial also has a very intriguing and unique multi-layer design with a precision, machined swirling effect. The outer bezel is comprised a thin rubberized frame that surrounds a clockwise, date moving Arabic numeral track. The numerals are applied and deeply filled with white lume. The date is a frameless cutout at the 4:00 position. This treatment has never been accomplished before on a Swiss Army watch.

Inward, the dial opens to thin air revealing gears, pearlage, geneve stripes and blued screws. The familiar 24-hour military scale, power reserve, and logo text is printed on the underside of the triple sandwiched sapphire crystal. These features float over the skeletonized dial and are the first and only time that Swiss Army used this sophisticated multilayered glass printing technique.

The hour, minute and seconds hands are brushed and the power reserve hand is again made in blued steel. The shield logo is a highly precision-cut, independently functioning part of the movement. Swiss Army designers seemed to apply a multitude of high tech processes to make this limited edition watch memorable and one of a kind.

The case is also beautifully brushed, which is a sportier treatment than a mirror polish.

The accompanying watch (sport) rubber band has a brushed stainless steel tang buckle. It is signed with the Victorinox shield logo engraved on the buckle and embossed on the rubber itself as a 3-dimensionalrelief. This strap will keep the watch snuggly positioned on the wrist for more adventurous journeys, making it a comfortable wearing watch despite the heft of platinum.

In addition, the watch features an oversized edge-to-edge display window that allows the onlooker to see the entire back of the Valgranges A07.161 automatic movement. This caliber is specifically designed for larger watches. The case is stamped with PL 950, which again indicates that it is made from 95% platinum. The other 5% is comprised of other alloys. Platinum is a very dense and heavy material and this particular watch weighs in at 160 grams.

Price becomes a big factor when one considers the vast field of luxury watches with more prestigious names like Rolex, Patek Philippe, Cartier, Breitling, Omega and a whole bunch more. However, this is a great way for a watch enthusiast to enter into the world of platinum timepieces without the enormous markup the aforementioned brands carry. Search google for platinum men’s watches and the prices those brands are commanding is astronomical by comparison and borderline crazy! You’ll quickly realize this VSA is the bargain of a lifetime!

Coming full circle, the movement is good for about 46 hours before it needs winding. The spinning watch rotor keeps the mainspring wound up as the owner wears it and the power gauge shows how much potential energy is stored by the mainspring, a relatively unique VSA feature. If the watch’s power gauge shows “low power” with the needle pointing to the left, simply wind the watch, or wear it on your wrist for a while. The gauge’s needle will creep rightward in an arc as the mainspring is wound.

All in all a Super Exotic Luxury Watch at an exceedingly modest price. Don’t let this opportunity of a lifetime pass you by, and again you'll never see another hit the open market!!!
