How Could I resist?

As I have previously posted our local AD , J. E. Caldwell, is in liquidation. They had been offering discounts of 10-15%. Two weeks ago my better half and I were walking the mall and saw a TTDJ for 25% off list. Well thats all she needed . WE bought that. I saw a TTDJ in Rose Gold at the same 25% off. That was a little too pricy for my budget. Today, we were at the mall and my TTDJ was 35% off. That was it for me. I snapped that up after I checked with Rolex to insure they would honor the warranty. Here are some wrist shots of our matching Datejusts. Also I found out that on the mans model ( D serial) the date alternates between Black (even) and Red (odd). The explanation offered was it dates back to odd/even gas days. Can anyone confirm this?

Congrats on the watches! Yes, some models come with the 'roulette' date.

Yes, you're in the Roulette club! It goes by model and dial combos.

Great story. If my wife decides to get into watches (like she is into shoes) I'm in REAL trouble.

You make me feel old, but the odd-even gas days happened during the "energy shortage" days of the Arab oil embargo in the mid-70's. But, I think the roulette date wheel in the watch pre-dates those days; not certain but pretty sure.

I really enjoy the Datejust and the Date watches, I have both vintage ones and they are quiet, but quite attractive watches. You did a good job.

Tsk ! You age is showing In the late 70's when OPEC started to control supply of gasoline, states started to limit the days you could buy gas for your car. It went by your license plate. Odd was on an odd day and even on even days.
