Not true Rolex themselves do not set any specific service period and they have never suggested or recommended a ten year period. This internet story came from a complete misreading of a Rolex statement. This is what it actually said that today the average Rolex owner have chosen around a ten year service interval before sending watches to be serviced. And its not that Rolex themselves recommended such a period. If you doubt what I state, try and find an official Rolex statement which mentions any specific time period because there is not one. My own preference depending on how the watch is used just use common sense around every 5- 8 years.

Sub for me .. but I'm 2/3rds the way to a Rolex only collection, so a bit one sided.

Your SMP is unfortunately gone, and unless its THAT particular watch you are heading out to buy, it doesnt matter what you buy ... it still wont be the SMP you are obviously missing.

So that brings you to price.

If the price difference is an issue to you personally, then the Omega should be what you pull the trigger on.

If its not .... then the Sub wins in my opinion.

Gents this is Not The SMP. Completely different watch and one reviewer nailed it. It wears much lower than the picture shown, although I guess much has to do with ones wrist shape. It’s a beautiful piece, and well executed IMHO. Yes as Jackson said the case is actually 39mm. 41mm with bezel overhang (a plus in my opinion as for grip feature)
Both beautiful pieces but my vote is for Omega. Also, it works amazingly well on either leather or NATO also, reducing weigh. You don’t even know it’s there. Very comfortable.

Correct, although blame really lies with Omega for using easily confused names for several different, but similar, watches. It also doesn't help that the official name for the SMP has changed several times over.

Not to throw in a wrench in your choices, but I chose a 5 digit (16600) Seadweller and love it as a daily wear watch. No cyclops with the added benefit of a date and brushed bracelet!

Thanks for the clarification. I don’t like putting out false information, so much appreciated.

Rolex all day everyday for me. My daily work/hike/hunt/shoot/crazy watch is an Explorer II. Sky-D and others for dress or a change of pace. Rolex is at its best when worn and lived with.
