Opening one of these with my bride this evening — haven’t had one in a while (almost went for the 05 or 09)— and am curious. Got a handful of this vintage left in the cellar.

Cheers friends!!

So today, my wife and I attended Vineyard Day at our favorite central coast winery. We ended up with about a case and a half of wine from two locations and we also bought a future barrel! We will get to choose the varietal and be involved in the whole wine making process. We will also get to design our own label for all the bottles we will receive. I look forward to opening these with friends on a momentous occasion like my daughter’s college graduation or her wedding.

Veddy nice! How was it? I've got a few in slumber right now. Not tempted to touch them until at least 2023, but curious where your bottle was at.......

Had a marvelous dinner at Republique in Los Angeles a few nights ago. A mini-vertical of Cristal champagne ('99, '00, '02, '08 and '09) were poured, along with their NV Roederer and Carte Blanche Demi-Sec champers. The rep from Louis Roederer was there, and he provided some excellent background history, as well as where the house and winemaker are guiding the brands forward. Food was really, really damn good, as well.

It was quite good — the nose is already fully mature to me on this one - notes of red and black berry fruits, very appealing on the first sip (as most Margaux is)— there was a creamy like richness to it mid palate which surprised me as — medium to full bodied - very long finish — great bottle — still young. 3 to 5 more years - and I bet it’s a perfect example of the 03 vintage. I wasn’t disappointed - but glad I have some still in the cellar.

Republique is on my short list. Glad to hear you had a good meal and nice wine. Hitting majordomo this week but might have to try republique after that!

Since the champagne was the draw for me, I didn't really do any research about Republique. Thought it was more of a casual spot, since they're open from breakfast all the way thru normal dinner service. Was very pleasantly surprised that it was a very cool spot evocative of a large Parisian bistro. We had the entire upstairs area to ourselves, and the whole place was bustling.

Food was

You all are having some good luck, all of mine are backed up until the end of this month or halfway into next month. They're all smaller wineries though.

I live in SoCal so they don’t really hold shipments. Everything comes same day/next day. We even get shipments in the height of summer.

1996 Burg's and Bdx's are swinging for the fences right now, just a really good vintage for both regions, and it's time to drink them!!

I'm just south of you and normally experience the same thing. Beringer and Stag's Leap are the only ones I've got so far but then again those are bigger wineries. Everything else I'm expecting are little family places or tiny production and low staff.

Picked up nine cases of different CA Pinot Noirs through a grinds and family wine industry sale at 50% off. My wife is signed up to compete for Woman of the Year for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in the spring. We’ll use these for some wine tasting fundraisers at the house.
