Something I'm noticing is a lot of people mentioning "vintage" for hard goods... Kind of reinforces the sentiment that they used to make things to last back then, instead of being disposable and replaceable.

I completely agree! have a late 90’s Schwinn Homegrown full suspension bike with all XT and XTR components. I still ride it all the time and love it. Just a great bike!

Nagra tape recorders. Swiss made, outstanding sound quality and durable beyond belief.

Obviously, not used in professional applications anymore but with the "back to vinyl" movement, who knows if these may become popular for home recordists. Maybe wishful thinking on my part but these machines are works of art.

My mom was a journalist and they carried those around to do the interviews. I remember they were heavy.
Then they'd edit the tapes and "copy paste" and tape them together in a big studio.
But nothing without nagra.

Then one day she brought home a version of nagra (still tape reel) that was as big as a Walkman. Not sure the brand.

The more recent Dyson vacuums have not been that great, especially the cordless ones.
Miele are better in my opinion.

My favorite “tough” brands that last more than a lifetime:

MSR
Arc’Teryx
Chris Reeve
Alden shoes
Rolex

There are other tough brands, but these brands are the ones that will outlast their owners.

To me (I know some may not agree) Rolex gives me much value for the money. The biggest reason for why I choose Rolex is because they are so durable, so flawlessly made and they last a life time and even more too.

I like items that are durable and gives me much value for money. So I want to hear about other useful items that are very durable, long lasting and of exceptional quality compared to price.

Another brand I also like is Leatherman. They are so durable and so good quality for the money you pay. And the guarantee and service is exceptional. At a vacation, my wife used the Leatherman to open Coconut's and then washed it in the sea A couple of weeks later when I pack it out everything is just rust. I send it in, they replaced it all free of charge. My father also had a Leatherman that was probably 10 year old, and he had just broken the knife on the middle because he was reckless with it. I sent it in and they did not only change the knife, but lots of other tools too that they decided was not up to standard. Again free of charge.

So Rolex and Leatherman are two of my favorite useful, and durable brands that I use on a daily basis. Anyone got other brands to recommend?
Yes it is off topic moved to open forum.

Rolex, Porsche, Apple products, Iron Heart denim and clothing (Japanese heavy built stuff), Vanson leathers, and old Fender basses are my go to products.

Also I am on my fifth Range Rover and ever since Tata bought them reliability has been excellent. I have had a Disco, a full size and am on my third sport. I dont think I have had a major issue since going sport HSE. These beasts rock on the open road and build quality is amazing.

I love quality heavy duty stuff. My Smurf fits right in with me.
100% this for Porsche. I used to be a Porsche tech that specialized in racing Porsches for about a decade. They are by far one of the most reliable cars I have ever worked on. Many other so called performance cars just dynamite on the track because they have systems designed for the street. A Porsche will run all day long and you can drive it home (depending on class obviously). From a technical standpoint, they are race cars made to run on the street. From the dry sump oiling system to the rock solid flat 6 design, they just last. In the consumer end, they would go 120k and only need a top end (valves turned, rings, gaskets, etc..) then go another 120k before replacing the bearings.

With regards to footwear pretty much any Goodyeqar Welted or some kind of sewn and not cemented shoe will last a good long time. But a short list would include the following.

John Lobb
St Crispins
Gaziano and Girling
Edward Green
Vass
Crockett and Jones
Churchs
Viberg
Enzo Bonafe
Carmina
Alden
Truman
Whites Boots
Trickers
Allen Edmonds
Loake 1880 Line of shoes only
Rancourt
Quoddy
Oakstreet Bootmakers
Redwing

Do as I may and as much as I try I am always searching and looking for high quality long lasting brands to invest in. Invest in as buying something that may cost more but last a long time. Hate just hate plastic and disposable products. Grew up when plastic was considered cheap and undesirable. I've purchased vintage items just to avoid and to enjoy something of quality rather than to purchase the latest cheapest crap. This forum has actually been a great place to start my research when looking for things which are built to last a good long time.

Case Cruzer - Subsidiary of Pelican Cases - another plastic but this one works too. Most components like wheels and such can be replaced by user and are covered under lifetime warranty.
Canada Goose
Chris Reeves
Steel and Wood and not plastic banned products
Dyson - In general just hate plastic but this plastic has served me well.

I am with you.

When I was a student, as from my third year studying Law, I also worked in a radio as a journalist.

We used Nagra E for external reports. Excellent machines!

The radio was also equipped with Studer and Revox gears. Great equipment, as another member said.

My family had a Revox A77. I nowadays still have 2 Revox A700.

I agree completely, mine broke, I was going to send it back but decided that I was being a tad unfair. A Chieftain Tank had rolled over it.

Simmons Bilt Leather jackets. The brand is now in Scotland and my GT can still stand up on its own on the floor after 2 years. I told my wife I want to be buried in in many, many years from now!
