Hope your friend gets better soon and recovers both physically and mentally. Pretty traumatic to end up hospitalised. Well wishes.

Had my Daytona stolen last week. It sucks. I hope they catch the purps in Texas and fry them. (Yes I know it isn't legally possible, but the thought is nice). Sometimes I wish there would be a divide like in the movie "in time", Or just ship all the criminals to some forsaken island and leave them to rot. In my eyes criminals don't deserve 3 meals a day and protection. They are animals so let them live in a jungle amongst their own kind and care for themselves. They should have no place in society.
I wish your friend well and a speedy recovery.

Wow! Very sorry to hear what happened to your friend! I hate stories like these about robbers and scammers! I lost a couple Rolex’s this past year from a robber, but thankfully left unscathed. They also caught the guy, which I’m glad. I wish your friend a quick recovery and hope he gets justice for it.

Sucks to hear news like this, but at the end of the day it could be a lot worse.

This is why I don't advocate blingy Rolex's in general. They are too much of a "mug me" target. Plus they really do shout "LOOK AT ME". To me it is uncouth and devoid of class.

I'm not saying it was his fault, but wearing a full gold Rolex out in public in locations that other wealthy individuals are not frequenting is inviting trouble. That combined with the fact he was drinking on his own...
It's sad but you really do have to think this way. These watches we wear are almost currency... there are a lot of very desperate people out there trying to survive. Making yourself an easy target is something we should all avoid.

Anyway, hope he recovers psychologically more so than anything.

Everyone here needs to understand that the only person who can assure you of your own safety is ones self. You either need to limit your movement and exposure or provide ones self with the means of self protection.

I walk very early in the morning and have for a very long time. Here recently there have been numerous vehicle break ins. The perps are very brazen. Numerous people have caught the perps on home security cameras or been approached in their own yards. As a result, I either don’t walk or afford myself of the ability to protect myself should a confrontation occur. This represents a very sad situation. I have lived in the neighborhood almost my whole life. Sadder still is the fact that in the last year I have only seen police patrols twice.

Sorry to hear and glad he will be ok. On a side note, let's keep this forum supportive, interesting and useful and hold negative unhelpful comments.

That's awful! I'm very sorry to hear of this, especially that it happened in my home country of Canada. In a perfect world we could wear what we want whenever we want, but sadly that's not the world we live in. Hope your friend is okay and recovers quickly. Very sad indeed.

No, and obviously no one deserves this happening to them but there are some steps we should probably all take to avoid similar:

1) Don't wear a gold Rolex in an unfamiliar city
2) If you do wear a gold Rolex in an unfamiliar city don't wear it to a bar
3) If you do wear it to a bar don't do it at night
4) If you do do it at night don't leave alone
5) If you do leave alone just hand over the watch and let insurance make you whole, it's not worth the injury

Very sorry to hear, one of the negatives of Rolex is brand recognition, your wearing a watch worth more then most make in 6 months. Criminals can spot them just like we can, scary times.

This is ridiculous: You all automatically assume he was mugged because he was wearing a Rolex? How would you know that???

So if he wasn't wearing a Rolex, this wouldn't have happened? Isn't it naive to assume that that could be the ONLY reason for being mugged?

Maybe he was a target because he left alone? Maybe the primary motive was to mug someone for their cash, and anything extra was just a bonus? Maybe it was a gang just looking to inflict pain upon someone, and stealing his personal items was secondary and thought of in the moment by the perpetrators? Who knows???
