SS 116610 Blue bezel/Dail?

Hi all, I met a friend this week sporting what I thought at first sight was a smurf WG Submariner date.

As a fellow WIS I asked to see the watch up close. I immediately saw brushed links. And was asking myself Rolex does only make blue dail and bezel in WG or YG on the Sub!?! I told this to my friend SS 116610 Sub date with blue dail and bezel aren't made by Rolex.

He said he had the watch on loan/temp trade in with his Speedmaster from a friend of his who is a collector. Told me I couldn't be a fake from this person came right out of his safe and that he's an avid collector from a wealthy family.

I inspected the watch and it looked real, all fonts/postitioning, engravings, cyclops looked ok to me. Sweep of secondhand also looked fine. Font inner clasp I have my doubt real lookes a bit finer but not sure. Felt quite heavy also for a SS Sub my GMT Blnr feels lighter.

Don't have any pics...

Really convincing fake or dial/bezel swap on a SS? Or maybe a WG with SS brushed bracelet?

It really intrigued me, I'll have to ask some pics.

That's a 'how long is a piece of string' question. Impossible to tell without pictures of the watch in question.

Seems there are many customs out there like this, I have a habit of watching them in eBay. Most usually all with fake/aftermarket serti dials and some sort of fake ceramic blue bezel insert. Some occasionally claim they have the OEM 116619 Smurf bezel and dial swapped in (what happened to the rest of the donor OEM Smurf though would cause me to wonder ...). It's tempting, because it seems this would be an insanely popular model (maybe 2018 holds at least a blue bezel black dial or vice versa 116610 in store for us?), but ultimately, a blue SS is not 100% auth.
