That's what I'm doing... First Rolex was between a submariner and a BLNR. Then I got my Daytona and now it's time for a BLNR 😂

They are both great watches but I would start with the Sub. The Glidelock clasp is outstanding. I would go with the Sub-C ND. Clean dial and can be had for about 2K less than the BLNR. Just my thoughts. No wrong choice to be made.

I had the same choice and bought the BLNR. I already had an Omega Seamaster 300 Master Co-axial so I had a no date dive watch with a black bezel. I think I would have chosen the BLNR anyway. I love the blue.

I was debating the same choice for weeks. It's a tricky decision to make because no matter which choice you go with you will be left with the nagging question "What if I had chosen the other one?"... This is because you will now know what it feels like owning the one you've chosed, while owning the other remains a fantasy and you may attribute to it properties that may or may not be true...

For me the key points to decide between were mostly between having or not having a date vs having or not having the additional color on the bezel. For many people having a date seems to be a must, but personally I never have any use for it and I find it distracting. I was therefore leaning very much towards the Sub ND as its clean and symetric dial is a big plus in my book. The thing going for the BLNR is of course the added playfulness of that splash of color on the bezel. I do not travel a lot, so technically the GMT feature is not that useful to me, but neither is having a diver watch...

While I was strongly leaning towards the Sub, I ended up buying the GMT on an impulse decision. (I do this type of thing quite often unfortunately.) I could not resist the colored bezel. Plus, again unlike others, I do like the polished center links.

Though to be honest by the time I bought it I was already fairly certain that eventually I'll buy the other one as well. (Hasn't happened yet, but probably will).

I haven't regretted the choice, it's a beautiful watch. After having worn it for a month or so though I can confirm though that I indeed find the date and cyclops to be distracting. It makes it a bit annoying to read the time as the hands pass below the cyclops and the dial feels a bit busy with the 4 hands and the cyclops. That said, I'm getting used to it, so your milage may vary...

One final thought. After having bought the first Rolex I got very excited about them and started thinking which other ones I might want to collect in the future. Initially the list got fairly long, but then I started consolidating it a bit. Now I'm thinking that perhaps the right choice might have been to buy the Sub afterall and then save up for the WG BLRO instead...

I was between those 2 myself... I ended up with the sub no date due to the simple and symmetrical dial, and brushed bracelet.

After having it, I feel I would now miss glidelock in any watch without it.

The 24hr GMT hand can be quite distracting for everyday use if you don't need it often. I personally like a cleaner looking dial like the Sub more, but really prefer using the GMT for travels outside my time zone. Now I know why a lot of members here say "Get Both!".

Got both as well, but I vote Sub, or better yet SD (don't love the cyclops). The Sub is the cornerstone of any collection and the most iconic watch ever made.

The GMT is dressier and the Sub is sportier, and I would choose based on that distinction. Consider getting the GMT for now and a Tudor diver (Black Bay or Pelagos) down the road, the two make for a great combo.

Anyone actually bought 114060 and blnr ate the same time? Ive been considering 114060 for awhile now with BLNR as next watch in the future. But ever since joining TRF i'm now considering getting both, then SS daytona white as future watch. Thanks guys!!!

I love the blnr, but the polished center links get scratched easily.

I faced the same and wore both in the shop. I went for the SubC as it had the look I wanted. Despite the lugs the Sub in classic and I love catching a glimpse of it reflecting. A mate of mine bought the BLNT and when I see it, it reaffirms to me that I made the right choice.

I have both and if I could only keep one, it would be the Sub. Yes, I travel a lot and the GMT hand is useful on that score however, the Glidelock clasp on the Sub is worth its weight in platinum. My Sub is the LVc and that dial is mesmerising.

GMT > Sub no date...

Unless you find a sub no date two liner. It looks even cleaner.

If it's a tie, keep considering both but for me it would be the BLNR.

,

I think alot of it has to do with how you plan on wearing the watch. I personally couldn't wear the BLNR with the type of clothing I wear casually [leaning towards more vintage/aged jeans/boots/etc]. The other question is if PCL scratches will bother you. These are questions only you can answer :)

I was in a similar boat - Decided on the Sub Date. It is my first and will be the cornerstone of my collection. Classic, versatile, goes with almost anything, etc. As the previous poster mentioned, the scratches from the PCL will annoy me. I'm coming off of a shiny Breitling Bentley, shine gets scuffed so easy, like the unpolished bracelet better on the Sub. I also don't leave the EST frequently (maybe 3-6x a year) so I don't need the multiple zone feature. The watch is there to tell me the time and date, and my personal feeling is that the 116610 is the best machine on Earth to do so, so that is what I went with.

The good news for you is that there is no wrong answer here. Good luck.

Both are great all purpose watches. I'd vote the BLNR as the GMT complication is slightly more useful for most people. Unless you are really into water sports I am not sure the Submariner offers much of a functional advantage. I also view the BLNR as a tad more versatile whereas the Submariner is a tad more sport.

I'll prob be in minority in this thread on this one, but I kinda disagree here.

I decided on the Sub 116610 bc IMO it feels like the most versatile watch Rolex makes. I feel like I can wear it with a pair of jeans, slacks, or pull it off in a suit.

Oh no doubt you definitely can. I think you can do that with almost any Rolex sport model. I guess I just feel like the Submariner and GMT-Master have all the same sport properties: sport dial, ceramic bezel, Oyster bracelet, etc. The BLNR has polished center links which make it a tiny bit more dressy. It's definitely pulling hairs but the GMT-Master is also targeted towards pilots, travelers, etc whereas the heritage of the Submariner is about diving, the military, etc.

The way Rolex manufactures its watches today, it's really negligible so your opinion is likely far from a minority.

What model Sub? If a stainless Sub with black face I'd go with the GMT you listed.
I prefer my bluesy Sub over my GMT but also like the blue/black GMT.

Or better yet try it on at the AD and buy it from a trusted seller here and save a lot of $$$ Just don't be a prick and waste too much of the poor salesman's time at the AD.

I own both and if you ask me the question to drop one. That would be hard one. Your more or less in the same boat but then the other way around. So good luck, sorry i couldn't help.

Reassurance is, you can't go wrong with either.

If your not using any of the function frequently, go with the one that sings to you the loudest.

Enjoy the hunting and enjoy the watch
