Thierry Stern Interview in Esquire UK

I haven't noticed this posted before but this came out earlier this month:

https://www.esquire.com/uk/design/a2...-independence/

It doesn't really sound like Patek is for sale.

Interesting how the company for sale news has kind of vanished. Never heard from again.

For me at least, that puts the rumors to rest.

I believe the for sale thing was about the divorce and the (ex) wife owning a substantial amount of stock.

There had been talk of a rumored divorce causing Stern to explore a sale.

I thought people had suggested that as a possible reason for needing to sell, not that it was a fact?
Seems like a case of fabricating one rumour as a reason for another fabricated rumour.

Yes, oftentimes the genesis of a rumored sale of a closely held private firm, or family business, is crisis. And one of the sources can be divorce (a’la Wynn Resorts). Another can be illness, fraud, etc.

So furtive minds will go through the paces to rationalize the root and spinoff myriad new rumors.

I wonder if Amazon shareholders can relate?

As I previously said in another thread about this

All. Publicity is great publicity, and it happened just after SIHH which means all eyes on Patek

My pleasure! I don't have any Patek's, so I try to do what I can around here.

What if Patek went public and the Stern family remained in control with 51% ownership?

I would buy their stock...at the right price :)

Great article! I love how Thierry always mentions in every article it seems no production increase in stainless steel pieces especially the nautilus. He gets how important value retention is with a Patek which is a piece of art.

So he didn't hook up with his wife's sister's best friend, as is the current insta fashion, in the end.

Thanks for sharing the article.

I got excited when I read about the increase of 10 times Nautilus...

Until he continued "but it would be too dangerous, I would become a mono-product. If Patek was part of a group it would be the opposite — it would be 90 per cent Nautilus and [a message that] we don’t care about the future… but it’s not only about money".

Lends credence to the "getting a divorce" rumor.

i have no idea... but it was super weird to hear your speculation coming back to you from an AD. Not saying other people haven't speculated the same thing, but it was funny

This interview was in the summer. It reads like they have no intention of selling, but it has no real bearing on the recent rumors that arose well after this interview was in the can.
