Phising for photos.. 213-238-0309

Someone named “Joseph” from this number (213) 238-0309 texted me directly about my Sub No Date asking for specific pictures. I sent some pictures he wanted and told him if he has any questions to give me a call directly. He then texted me again asking for a specific shot of the watch on my wrist showing the warranty card on the background. I tried calling him before sending any more pictures, and it goes directly to voicemail that has not been set up yet. I texted him asking what his username was here on TRF, he said he is not a member. I then ended it right there. Smells Fishy...

I think he might potentially be using my pictures to scam someone else as he was asking for specific shots. “Joseph”, posing as a seller and then the actual buyer asking these specific pictures get scammed.

I hate scammers!!

Why would you send any pics to someone you don’t know?

Because he asked me a legitimate question at first.. saw my ad, asking more pictures, so I sent it. Red flag was when I told him to call me if he needed anything else, but he preceded to text me..Then I called the number, straight to voicemail that has not been set up. Im posting this thread as a “beware” for people. Just looking out for people.

Its pretty normal for prospective buyers to request additional pics, 1 to possibly highlight any defects and 2, to be sure seller actually has the watch in their possession.
Unfortunately sounds like this contact was intending to pass on the pics to other marks in order to scam them. These people and their scams are getting quite sophisticated.

Got it. Didn’t see we’re you referenced your listing.

he probably know where you live now just from the picture. (hopefully, you turn off tracking on your camera)

Also, google the number and it's from a doggy care website.

We all post pictures to this forum that could be misappropriated by anyone anytime.

I think that there are a lot of people who never set up their voicemail, but I could be wrong.

I think you're doing the right thing by backing off and posting a warning.

I have a friend who was scammed out of several thousands just a few days ago, while trying to sell a banjo.

It was a complicated scheme involving questionable shipping and a fake cashier's check, facilitated by the eagerness of my friend to get some quick cash.

Fortunately, he still has the banjo, because the check bounced before he shipped it off.

Thanks for writing about this and bringing it to the community's attention. I would have never thought about this dishonest, yet clever tactic. Even more incredible is that you came across the listing doing exactly as you had suspected. Hopefully this guy gets caught and is fed bread and water for the rest of his life. I hate scammers and thieves!

that is why it's so important to buy from trusted sellers or someone who has credible references here on the forum. when I buy from a credible source, I take his word for it. If he says it's MINT, then it's MINT. no need for pictures.
