Panerai Carbotech Suggestions/Advice

Hey guys,

Looking for some advice/feedback as to which models to look at.

This weekend I was in Vail and finally saw a carbotech piece, PAM661. I was rather impressed about how thin and light it was. My only issue with this one, was that it did not have a display case back, nor a sandwich dial. Do any of them have these features?

I walked away from Panerai as a brand many years ago, for the same reasons most did, but I think I would like to add one of these carbotech pieces to the collection. I am a fan of carbon pieces in general.

I look forward to your suggestions and comments.

Thanks,

JPS

JPS,

I believe all of the Carbotechs are painted/applied, at least the Luminor and Submersible I have within arms reach. My guess is that it is part to do with the dial, as well as the weight of the piece.

The only previous Carbotech that was a sandwich dial was the Lab-ID.The current line up uses a painted/applied dial.

It’s a cool material unique to Panerai. No two pieces are alike and the material will “patina” with age (darken).

It's light but felt plasticky,be careful that the material can show dent if being hit hard

Personally I prefer composite as it still feels like ceramic....

hey john!

i just got a 661 for the same reasons, it is super light and wears great with the thinner case. the gold on the dial/hands match great with a gold JV strap. the movement is very accurate and I like being able to set the hour independently for traveling.

cons are that I wish it had a display caseback, the movement sounds kinda noisy / not particularly great. the material doesnt seem too durable as it shows marks

Interesting- I guess that's the difference between a 9k piece and a 160k piece ;)
