Incoming - 2nd G shock

A few years ago I got a Rangeman and have given it more than a few good beatings. For every day it’s a bit large and bombastic though on my wrist. So a few days ago decided to pick up my second G shock for those days I just don’t feel like putting on a Rolex/Omega/PP/etc. Have read a few brief write ups on the GW-5000-1JF in the past and another one surfaced last week (I think) on my Watchville app, and decided to pull the Amazon Prime trigger. So far, very happy with it, like the supple, all matte black case and strap , the smaller size than the Rangeman, and the relatively simplified functions compared to some other G shocks.

How's this worked out for you so far? I've been considering one lately. It's the only G-Shock in the range that has my attention.

Really into this watch. Best $290 I’ve spent in a while. Can’t recommend it enough.

Thanks. Hard to argue the price, really. Might have to grab one soon.

Based solely off this post I purchased one of these GW-5000-1JF. Very pleased with it. Strap is super comfortable. The all black finish is nice. I found a lightly used one, essentially brand new on eBay for $235. Seller was in the states too so I got it in a couple days. It appears the amazon options all ship from Japan. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a g-shock.

I've had mine on the composite bracket for a couple of years but may switch it back to the original rubber this summer. Definitely not a watch for everyone, but highly prized and appreciated by those in the know.

I also have a GW-5000. I had a cheaper G and it never saw any wrist time, felt too much like a toy.

The GW-5000 feels like a real watch and built to last. If there is one G to own for me, this is it. In fact it hasn't left my wrist in about 3 weeks, since my son was born. The countdown timer is a life-saver to time feedings.

I have a Casio Illuminator and love it as my "around the house", "exercise" and "yard work" watch.

Enjoy your new acquisition.

I have same watch with Deployment clasp bracelet ... I love it. Unfortunately USA is shutting down the Radio Timing Network either this year or next year.

Deployant. The clasp isn't packing up for an overseas tour.

NIST still has full budget to keep WWV/WWVH/WWVB up and running. The proposal to cut funding didn't pass the House and Senate.

Awesome....

“Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small unregarded yellow sun. Orbiting this at a distance of roughly ninety-two million miles is an utterly insignificant little blue green planet whose ape-descended life forms are so amazingly primitive that they still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea.”

Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Saw this quote and thought I'd post it....

The 5000 J1 costs $278. I have a 5600 that cost much less. Worth the difference?

IMO, definitely yes. Despite having a similar aesthetic, they are really different watchesl. For example, the 5000J is solar powered, multiband, stainless steel construction under all that rubber, much nicer strap, and made in Japan.

Depends on how you are going to use it.

If you absolutely plan on destroying the watch (i.e. tons of salt water, sun screen, bug spray, bang it hard against anything everything), then I would suggestion DW5600E and replace it every battery change.

Otherwise, the GW5000 is a much nicer built watch that you can feel the difference, besides just having more features. i.e. the DLC SS inner case, soft high quality bezel and strap.
