Beautiful! Look at those squared crown guards! You don't often see them retain that factory shape. Fantastic!

Good eye Aaron. I also noticed the crown guards right away when I first saw the watch, because the contrast between the sharp crown guards and worn lug chamfers was so dramatic.

Thanks, and it's one of the first things I look at. Your Sub looks great.

For whatever reason, it seems the shape of the crown guards are the first thing you lose when the watch is polished. Even fat cases with minimal polish might not have crown guards like that.

Your crown guards look similar to the ones on my 5512.

I realize that this thread is two years old, but man, that is a beautiful result! I just sent my new to me '66 MF in for an overhaul, new crystal and touch up on one of the lume plots. I hope it turns out as well as yours!

I know you bumped an old thread, but I'm glad this exists. I love the restoration, especially as I'm looking to do the same on a watch I'm after.

FWIW, I'm still happy with my choices on this watch. I still own it and enjoy wearing it. It would be a case-by-case decision for me, but this one had enough upside because of the original and attractive dial/hands/insert, as well as the good condition of the crown-guards.

Thanks, Paul. Yes, it's got the error caseback, VI 66. Fairly early matte dial.
