I'm about to finish this project and would love to keep this perfectly patinaed lume just like it is, no powdering!

What is being used these days?

The problem is that stabilizing tiny lume dots like that is difficult without spilling over onto the dial slightly, which can leave a subtle stain surrounding the plot. Hands are easier since you can stabilize them from behind, and the only risk is a slight darkening. So it just depends what risk you prefer.

I’d leave it as is. It doesn’t appear to be showing any signs of degradation so the greatest risk to the lume would likely be someone tinkering with it.

Great looking dial .... I’d leave it alone as well. The most important thing would be to ensure that your case is waterproof. I have an 84-85 16014 and my lume plots and hands have aged nicely with zero oxidation and I think they stay in such nice shape because it’s a sealed environment. I really like your dial, I have a gray sunburst dial that I’d possibly switch out for a nice tapestry dial like yours. I’d of course keep my original but I wouldn’t mind swapping out from time to time. I hesitate to simply for the reason that I feel like every time the case is opened it’s an opportunity for the lume plots to get knocked off and the dial could possibly be scratched. Accidents can certainly happen.

Beautiful dial. It certainly is tragic when the lume plots fall off, which they inevitably do.

There's never any sign of deterioration until there is.
